Gold Price Forecast
World gold prices fell amid an increase in the USD index. Recorded at 1:06 a.m. on February 7, the US Dollar Index, which measures the greenback's fluctuations against six major currencies, was at 107.575 points (up 0.13%).
According to Kitco, world gold prices temporarily paused before the US announced one of the most important economic data of the month on Friday morning. April gold contracts fell $4.70 to $2,888.30 an ounce. March silver prices fell $0.451 to $32.525 an ounce.
On Friday, the US January jobs report will be released. Nonfarm payrolls are expected to increase by 169,000, compared with 256,000 in December. Bloomberg said the US January payrolls data will be difficult to analyze due to the impact of wildfires in Los Angeles and cold weather in other parts of the country.
Asian and European stock markets were mostly higher overnight. US stock indexes are expected to open mixed as trading begins in New York.
David Morrison, senior market analyst at Trade Nation, a financial brokerage, said in an email that the recovery in US stocks came as the shock from President Donald Trump's tariff announcements faded.
"Investors were relieved that the threat of 25% tariffs on imports from Mexico and Canada was postponed for a month. The 10% tariff on Chinese goods is significantly lower than the 60% previously threatened.
China has responded with trade restrictions, which are expected to take effect next week. This creates a short time for the two sides to reach a deal as US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping are expected to negotiate ahead of the deadline," Morrison said.
In overnight news, the Bank of England cut its main interest rate but sent a tough signal by suggesting that future rate hikes could be fewer.
US Treasury Secretary Bessent said the Trump administration is focused on reducing borrowing costs, specifically the yield on 10-year Treasury bonds.
The Japanese yen rose after a Bank of Japan board member said interest rates should be raised by at least 1% in the second half of the fiscal year starting in April.
Today’s key outside markets saw Nymex crude oil futures edge up and trade around $71.50 a barrel. The 10-year Treasury yield is currently at 4.436%.
