In early November 2024, we had the opportunity to follow Mr. Ngo Thai Duy - Captain of the Park - Tree Team, Can Tho Urban Joint Stock Company to visit the health of Mr. Le Thanh Tri (born in 1976) - a male worker who suddenly had an accident that resulted in paralysis of the lower body.
As soon as he met us, Mr. Tri smiled brightly because someone came to visit and chat. Mr. Tri still spoke clearly and remembered the day of the accident: "That day was in March 2024, after coming home from work, I took my nephew swimming. After swimming, I went up the stairs and slipped, fell, and hit my head on the tiles. At that time, I didn't know anything anymore..." - Mr. Tri recounted.
Since the accident, Tri’s family has taken him to 4 hospitals for treatment, including many days in the Intensive Care Unit - Anti-Poison Room. After about 3 months, his health has improved. Thanks to health insurance, the total cost of treatment is just over 100 million.
Mrs. Dinh Thi Tu (Tri's mother) confided that he is the breadwinner of the family, but with his current income, he can only make ends meet. He can only pay for hospital bills with the help of the company's union, relatives, and benefactors. Mrs. Tu and her husband have a small fruit stall in front of their house, but because of their old age, diabetes, and polyarthritis, they cannot sell much.
"During the days when Tri was sick, I could only pray for my son's life to be saved. We had to take care of him no matter what, but my husband and I seemed helpless because we had no other source of income," said Mrs. Tu.
Feeling sorry for her nephew's situation, Ms. Do Thi Le Hang (born in 1957, Tri's aunt) took part of her monthly pension to help her nephew with his medical treatment.
"Tri's parents are both seriously ill, so I closely follow him to take care of him, from food, medicine to helping him move his arms and legs. The doctor also said that Tri has the ability to recover, I just hope he gets well soon so he can return to work" - Ms. Hang choked up.
It is known that before the accident, Mr. Tri was one of the outstanding workers of the Green Tree Team because he could take on many different positions, had good health and got along with everyone. Mr. Tri was also a regular member of the Union participating in sports activities.
"Mr. Tri works hard and is loved by his teammates. I feel very heartbroken when I see him unable to walk and continue working to support his family," said Mr. Duy.
In the spirit of mutual love, the Trade Union of Can Tho Urban Joint Stock Company had previously issued an open letter calling for donations to join hands to support Mr. Tri to overcome difficulties. Mr. Nguyen Phuc Nhu - Chairman of the Trade Union of the Company said that although Mr. Tri was no longer able to work, the company still accompanied him in life, helping him to recover his health soon. "We really hope that Mr. Tri will receive support from benefactors!" - Mr. Nhu said.
