Writer Khuat Quang Thuy was born in 1950 in Hanoi, and is a pen that has matured since the resistance war against the US. In 1976, he was sent to the Literary Writing Camp of the General Department of Politics, then studied at Nguyen Du Writing School, course I.
After graduating, he returned to the Army Arts Magazine as Editor, Head of the Literature Department and then became Deputy Editor-in-Chief.

During his lifetime, writer Khuat Quang Thuy was Editor-in-Chief of the electronic information page of the Vietnam Writers' Association, then Deputy Editor-in-Chief in charge, Editor-in-Chief of the Arts Newspaper. He was a member of the Executive Committee, Head of the Inspection Committee of the Vietnam Writers' Association for the 8th, 9th and 10th terms.
In January 2024, writer Khuat Quang Thuy resigned as Editor-in-Chief of the Literature and Arts Newspaper due to health reasons. In March of the same year, he resigned from all leadership positions of the Vietnam Writers' Association due to increasingly poor health.
Hearing the news of writer Khuat Quang Thuy's passing, many friends and colleagues expressed their condolences. On his personal page, writer Nguyen Van Tho expressed: "I have been friends with Khuat Quang Thuy since 1973, met at the Central Highlands Front Mass Arts Performance, participated in fierce battles in the Central Highlands, and the Ho Chi Minh Campaign, and since then the friendship has become increasingly close.
He encouraged me to participate in writing for the Army Arts Magazine - where he was Head of the Literature Department. He is also a loyal friend to his friends, always defending and fighting, as well as sincerely criticizing me".
In his writing career, writer Khuat Quang Thuy has composed many famous and valuable works such as: "In the whirlwind" (1980), "Before the dawn", "The Sun" (1988), "The Beauty of the Doai Land: (1991), short story collection "People at Phu Van Wharf: (1985), "Unbled Hearts" (1986)...
He has also received many prestigious awards such as: First Prize in the short story writing contest of the Military Arts Magazine, Ministry of National Defense Literature Award (1984) for the novel "Not a Joke", Ministry of National Defense Literature Award (2004) for the novel "Walls of Fire", State Prize for Literature and Arts in 2007 for a cluster of 3 novels: "In the tornado", "Not a Joke" and "The Last Black Corner"...
