The festival takes place over 2 days, November 9-10, at the Stieng Ethnic Culture Conservation Area in Bom Bo (Bu Dang district, Binh Phuoc province).
According to the People's Committee of Bu Dang district, during the resistance war against the US to save the country, the place name Bom Bo became a legend, creating a heroic spirit and determination to fight off foreign invaders and gain independence and freedom for the homeland and country.
With ardent patriotism, not succumbing to the policy of forcing people to settle in hamlets of the American-puppet regime, the people of Soc Bom Bo crossed streams and forests to return to the revolutionary base (Nua Lon base in Duong 10 commune, Bu Dang district today).
Despite many difficulties and hardships, the Stieng people of Bom Bo commune are loyal to the Party and the Revolution, actively competing in labor production to serve both their lives and the requirements and tasks of the base area.
In 1965, the Regional Command decided to launch the Phuoc Long - Dong Xoai campaign to destroy the enemy's military cluster in the North of the D war zone, within Phuoc Long, Binh Long and on the strategic traffic axis of the Central Highlands - Saigon (current National Highways 13 and 14).
At this time, Bom Bo squirrel became a food supply center for soldiers participating in the campaign.
The Bom Bo squirrel people and the squirrels in the base area gathered all their forces and available supplies, using long bamboo sticks to carve dozens of holes in the mortar to pound rice day and night, promptly serving the battlefield.
After 3 days and nights of hard work pounding rice, the people of Bom Bo hamlet provided the Phuoc Long - Dong Xoai campaign with 5 tons of rice in the shortest time, successfully completing the assigned task.
The image of the Stieng people in Bom Bo hamlet pounding rice under the flickering torchlight, along with their sentiments for the Revolution, became the inspiration for the late musician Xuan Hong to compose the famous song "The sound of pestles on Bom Bo hamlet".
When peace was restored, the Bom Bo villagers returned to their old place (now Bom Bo village, Binh Minh commune, Bu Dang district) to establish villages, protect the forest, live and develop their family economy.
Soc Bom Bo has become a place to preserve, conserve and promote the typical cultural features of the Stieng people in the Southeast region.
Mr. Vu Van Muoi - Chairman of Bu Dang District People's Committee said that the festival "The sound of pestles echoing forever on Bom Bo village" contributes to the effective implementation of preserving and promoting the cultural identity of ethnic groups in the district.
Mr. Vu Van Muoi also called for the attention and investment of businesses to promote economic restructuring and improve the lives of ethnic minorities here...
