On the afternoon of July 2nd in Ho Chi Minh City, director Bao Nhan, Nam Cito and the crew of "The Last Queen" officially launched the project before the media. The event marks Tang Thanh Ha's return to cinema after 13 years since "My Nhan Ke" (2013).
During her time away from the screen, the actress mainly focused on business and taking care of her family, only occasionally appearing at some events of relatives and friends.
The "Last Empress" project started filming in March 2026 at Kien Trung Palace (Hue Citadel), after six years of preparation. According to director Bao Nhan, more than 90% of the film's content takes place in the royal palace space, recreating the life of the Nguyen Dynasty from an emotional perspective.
The producer said that the work does not follow the biographical storytelling style but focuses on depicting the fate and inner life of Empress Nam Phuong in the face of historical upheavals.
Besides the love story with King Bao Dai, the film also explores the journey of her preserving traditional cultural values in the role of a queen.
In addition to Tang Thanh Ha and Ma Ran Do (as King Bao Dai), the work also gathers many faces such as Than Thuy Ha, Ma Ran Do, Quoc Cuong..., promising to create a quality cast. The actors undergo 9-10 months of acting and court ritual training before filming.
The script is built from many sources of materials about the life and love story of Empress Nam Phuong. The project received support from local authorities to film at the Hue relic complex, with Kien Trung Palace as the central setting. In addition to Hue, the film crew also filmed in Da Lat, Buon Ma Thuot, Ho Chi Minh City and Chabrignac (France) - where Empress Nam Phuong lived her later years.
Tang Thanh Ha (born in 1986) is a well-known actress and model. She is loved by audiences for her roles in the movies "Huong Phu Sa", "Suddenly Want to Cry", "Beautiful Every Centimeter" and "My Nhan Ke". From 2012, after marrying businessman Louis Nguyen, she stopped artistic activities to switch to the field of culinary business, fashion and family care.
