On December 1, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province decided to allocate 13 billion VND to support Van Canh commune to overcome the damage caused by storm No. 13, of which 10 billion VND will be used to repair Canh Son bridge.
Canh Son Bridge is about 70m long, connecting Canh Tan village with Hon Me village. Floodwaters during storm No. 13 collapsed the bridge abutment and washed away about 30m of the bridge span, causing complete traffic disruption, making it difficult for people to travel.
Instead of going through Canh Son bridge just a few hundred meters as before, Canh Tan villagers have to take a detour, about 3km further. This greatly affects the daily life, transportation of agricultural products and students' going to school.
Mr. Nguyen Xuan Viet - Chairman of Van Canh Commune People's Committee - said that the locality has reported to the Department of Construction and the Provincial People's Committee to support the cost of repairing the problem. The province has decided to allocate 13 billion VND to the locality.
"Van Canh Commune Project Management Board is carrying out procedures to promptly deploy the repair work," said Mr. Viet.
According to Mr. Viet, in addition to damaged traffic infrastructure, storm No. 13 also completely collapsed 2 houses; completely blown off the roofs of 32 houses; 207 houses were partially blown off the roofs and 25 houses were flooded by flash floods; destroyed about 7,000 hectares of planted forests... The total estimated damage is more than 46 billion VND.
