Returning to At Thuong village, Minh Xuan commune, Luc Yen district, Yen Bai province - where the landslide occurred, killing 9 people and injuring many others in the early morning of September 10, the scene of devastation has been replaced by a bustling atmosphere at the reconstruction site. 35 Tay households who had to be urgently evacuated due to the landslide are being supported by the Military Region 2 Command to build new houses to soon stabilize their lives.
Mr. Hoang Van Que - Head of At Thuong village - said: "Never before have people here witnessed such a terrifying devastation of nature. At dawn, hearing a loud explosion as terrifying as a bomb, everyone in the village rushed to the rescue but all were helpless in the darkness of the mountains and forests. Thousands of cubic meters of earth and rock fell from the high hills and buried all 6 houses, leaving many people unable to escape."
Thanks to the caring policies of the Party, the State and the Ministry of National Defense, by December 18, 19/35 houses for the people have taken shape. It is expected that before the Lunar New Year, the resettlement area will be completed so that people can draw lots and move to their new houses," said At Thuong village chief.
One of the pitiful situations after the landslide in At Thuong village, Minh Xuan commune is Ms. Hoang Thi Nhien - wife of the victim Hoang Van Duoc, born in 1991. For 2 weeks, every day Ms. Nhien carried her 5-year-old son to the scene of the landslide to join the authorities in digging and searching with the hope of finding her husband's body soon. On the 16th day, the body of Mr. Duoc - the 9th victim - after the landslide was found and handed over to his family for funeral arrangements. "Everyone has helped me and my son a lot. Now my son and I are still staying at a relative's house, waiting until the end of the year to receive a new house to stabilize our lives" - the 25-year-old widow choked up.
Talking to Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Pham Van Hai - Construction Site Commander - said: "35 stilt houses in the At Thuong village reconstruction area are built at level IV with typical Tay ethnic stilt house architecture, with a construction area of about 72m2 and a usable area of 144m2. The construction cost of each house is about 650 million VND from the Fund for the Poor of the Ministry of National Defense. Currently, about 200 workers and officers and soldiers of Company 789 are working hard, working overtime at night to try to complete before Tet and hand over to the people."
To help the Tay village truly recover after the flood, soldiers and local people also planted trees around the resettlement area. The mud-filled areas have now been cleaned up, and children can freely run and play after school...
After inspecting the resettlement areas for people after storm No. 3 in Luc Yen district, Mr. Ta Van Long - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the People's Council of Yen Bai province - praised the spirit and responsibility of the Party Committee and authorities in coordinating with contractors to speed up the construction progress of items such as leveling the ground and building roads to the resettlement areas.
Mr. Ta Van Long emphasized that ensuring the progress and quality of the project is a priority task, helping people in flood-affected areas to soon stabilize their lives and celebrate the traditional New Year in a new, safe and spacious house.
