On September 10, Mr. Do Thanh Binh - Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee and Mr. Truong Canh Tuyen - Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee, along with leaders of departments and branches, inspected the progress of the project to upgrade and expand National Highway 91 section Km0-Km7, Can Tho Oncology Hospital and the project to preserve, restore, and promote the value of the Lo Vong Cung historical relic.
Removing site congestion, accelerating National Highway 91
The project to upgrade and expand National Highway 91 section Km0-Km7 has a total investment of more than 7,237 billion VND, about 7km long, passing through Ninh Kieu, Cai Khe, Binh Thuy and Thoi An Dong wards. According to the plan, the route expansion will be completed in June 2027, and the entire project will be completed in December 2027.
According to the Can Tho City Traffic and Agricultural Construction Investment Project Management Board, the project progress currently largely depends on site clearance and technical infrastructure relocation.
To date, 1,095 affected cases have been approved for compensation plans with a total budget of more than 2,447 billion VND. Of which, 1,031 cases have received money, reaching 94.16%; and 64 cases have not received, with an amount of more than 265 billion VND.
The land has been handed over 13,017/14,086m, reaching 92.41%, and 1,069m has not been handed over, mainly in Binh Thuy ward with 858m.
The actual construction value to date has reached more than 193 billion VND/1.547 billion VND, equivalent to 12.5%. Contractors are constructing drainage systems, technical trenches and expanded roadbeds. Binh Thuy bridge alone has constructed 60/603 bored piles.
According to the plan, the clean site must be handed over in September 2026 to ensure the progress of completing the planned items.
Through inspection, Mr. Do Thanh Binh requested units to proactively develop construction plans suitable to the characteristics of the city center area, where the traffic density is high.
According to the Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, daytime construction is not highly effective because traffic must be ensured. Therefore, contractors need to strengthen nighttime construction, especially after 10-11 pm, when vehicle traffic decreases, focus manpower and machinery to speed up progress, and at the same time limit the impact on people.
Mr. Binh requested that where the site is handed over, construction must be organized thoroughly, without waiting for 100% of the site to be deployed. "The unit that does well will be rewarded; the unit that is slow or violates the progress will be fined," Mr. Binh emphasized.
Hospitals must ensure to welcome patients at the end of the year
The investment project to build Can Tho Oncology Hospital with a scale of 500 beds was approved in 2017, adjusted in 2019 and continued to adjust the investment policy at the end of 2025.
After adjustment, the project has a total investment of about 2,071 billion VND, using ODA loans from the Hungarian Government, the Central budget and local budgets.
According to assessments, the hospital construction progress is slow compared to the plan. The reason is determined to be that the contractor consortium has not coordinated closely and has not synchronously implemented the items according to the approved design.
At the inspection, Can Tho City Party Secretary Do Thanh Binh requested units to focus on removing difficulties, accelerating progress, and completing the remaining tasks to ensure putting the Oncology Hospital into operation and receiving patients by the end of December 2026.
According to the Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee, when the hospital builds a brand and prestige, people will have more confidence and choose local medical services, contributing to reducing pressure on upper-level medical facilities.
On the same day, leaders of Can Tho City also inspected the project to preserve, restore, and promote the value of the Lo Vong Cung historical relic.
