According to Lao Dong reporters, the coastal area of Tan Thanh block (Hoi An Tay ward) has been continuously threatened by big waves in recent days, many sections have eroded 25 - 30m deep, extending over 100m.
Notably, some newly reinforced embankments were also broken by waves, the soil was eroded and flowed into the sea, directly affecting residential areas and neighboring tourist establishments.

Worshiping the eroded coast and the waves digging deep day and night, Mr. Pham Van Tung (Group 4, Tan Thanh block) shared that for about 3-4 days now, the waves have been breaking up the embankment that has just been reinforced by local authorities and businesses.
According to Mr. Tung, there were places that were previously nearly 20m from the coast, now less than 5m is very dangerous. Many people like him also hope that local authorities will quickly have solutions and long-term solid embankment plans.

To cope with the risk of landslides, businesses and restaurants here have recently saved themselves by stacking sandbags to make temporary embankments to block waves and lay coconut fiber carpets, but this option is only temporary, unable to overcome the forces of nature.

Previously, on October 28, Central Party Committee member, Secretary of the Da Nang City Party Committee Le Ngoc Quang visited the landslides in the coastal area of Tan Thanh block and inspected the coastal erosion prevention project in Hoi An Dong ward.

Da Nang City Party Secretary Le Ngoc Quang affirmed that, in the face of complicated developments in climate change and rising sea levels, coastal erosion prevention and control work needs to be comprehensively, long-term and sustainably approached.
Ward leaders need to continue to closely coordinate with departments, branches and specialized agencies to research and propose fundamental technical solutions; promote propaganda, raise public awareness in protecting the marine environment and ensuring sustainable livelihoods for people in coastal areas.
