Dien Bien - Two brothers were buried by rocks and soil in Hang Pu Xi village, Xa Dung commune, and were in dire circumstances. Both father and mother were away from home.

In the early morning of August 1, the flash flood and landslide in Hang Pu Xi village, Xa Dung commune, Dien Bien province not only swept away the house of Mr. Mua Chu Phong's family (49 years old) but also took the lives of two sons, Mua A D. (13 years old) and Mua A G. (11 years old).

It is known that at dawn on August 1, Mr. Phong and his wife were not at home, only D. and G. were sleeping. The flood came quickly and fiercely, rocks and soil from a high hill fell down and completely buried the house, leaving the two children unable to escape. The two children were found by the authorities on the morning of August 2.

Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Mua Chu Phong - Hang Pu Xi village, Xa Dung commune - said that while working for hire in Hanoi, he heard that his house had flash floods.

"I took a bus in a hurry on the morning of August 1 to get home. However, when I arrived, the scene of devastation before my eyes completely collapsed me" - Mr. Phong recounted.

In his biological brother's small house, Mr. Phong choked up as he said: "Now all the houses are gone, I have to borrow my brother's house to do the procedures for the children. The family is already too poor..., now I no longer have children".

Mr. Mua A Thi - Head of Hang Pu Xi village said that Mr. Phong's family is in the second most difficult group in the village.

"Both Mr. Phong and his wife work away from home and have not been in the locality for about 3 months. Occasionally, I just go home and not stay home to take care of my children" - Mr. Thi informed.

According to Mr. Thi, normally the two children at home told each other to cook rice. Occasionally, there are grandfathers (over 90 years old, living nearby) who cook rice or send food. Lacking the care of both father and mother, the lives of D. and G. could only rely on each other.

In the pain of losing children and houses, the miserable father could only rely on help. "The family hopes that the government and benefactors will create conditions and help to rebuild a small house to stabilize our lives," said Mr. Phong.

Currently, the local government of Xa Dung commune is working with the villagers to support Mr. Phong's family in arranging the funeral for the two children, and at the same time calling for resources to help households in Hang Pu Xi village overcome difficulties.

The horrific flash flood through Hang Pu Xi village, Xa Dung commune killed 2 people; 17 households were buried by soil and rocks, swept away completely, losing both their houses and property; 5 households were buried by soil and rocks...
