Dien Bien suffers about 500 billion VND in damage due to floods

Dien Bien - During 3 days of floods in many localities, 10 people died and 7 people were injured, causing damage of about 500 billion VND.

On the morning of August 3, the People's Committee of Dien Bien province said that due to the impact of heavy rain lasting from July 31 to 9:00 p.m. on August 2, the whole province had 10 deaths, 7 injuries, and more than 300 houses were swept away and damaged. The total damage is estimated at about 500 billion VND.

The flash flood and landslide caused by prolonged heavy rain have destroyed many communes in the province such as Xa Dung, Tia Dinh, Muong Luan, Na Son...

In particular, in Xa Dung commune, 7 deaths and 2 injuries were recorded due to flash floods and landslides. Tia Dinh commune had 3 deaths and 5 others were seriously injured. The victims were mainly women and children, living in remote areas.

At the Conference on direct and online coordination to bridge points 35 communes and wards (10 communes due to the impact of floods have not yet connected to the transmission line) on natural disaster response and implementation of remedial work (held on the afternoon of August 2).

Dien Bien Provincial Party Secretary Tran Quoc Cuong requested that forces organize and deploy the adequate supply of food, provisions, drinking water, medicine and essential necessities to the people. For households with damaged and unsafe houses, it is necessary to quickly move to a temporary safe place.

On August 2, Deputy Prime Minister Ho Duc Phoc signed Decision No. 1653/QD-TTg of the Prime Minister to provide emergency financial support to Son La, Dien Bien and Nghe An provinces to overcome the consequences of floods.

The Prime Minister decided to support 250 billion VND from the central budget reserve in 2025 for 3 localities to initially overcome the consequences and stabilize people's lives after floods (including: Dien Bien 100 billion VND, Son La 50 billion VND, Nghe An 100 billion VND) as proposed by the Ministry of Finance in document No. 11803/BTC-NSNN dated August 2.

In recent days, floods and landslides in the North Central and Northern mountainous provinces have killed and left many people missing, houses, schools and maple blossoms were swept away and submerged in mud, affecting local production activities.
