Dak Lak - The medical team of Buon Don commune has been making efforts to improve nutrition and improve physical fitness for children in ethnic minority areas.

Improving the situation of malnourished children

In Buon Don commune (Dak Lak province), there are many children under 5 years old in ethnic minority areas showing malnutrition. If they do not ensure enough nutrition for the children, it will lead to many consequences.

They are prone to malnutrition, low coronation, low weight, and slow growth in height and weight compared to their age. This not only affects physical fitness, poor nutrition also directly affects brain development.

Children with malnutrition are often slow to speak, lack of concentration, reduce their ability to absorb, affect learning outcomes and development opportunities.

Faced with the above situation, in September 2025, Buon Don Commune Health Station deployed health care for children under 5 years old with malnutrition.

The list of children who need care for medical staff in the area is carefully reviewed and selected, avoiding the wrong subjects or omission, affecting the rights of children.

The health workers measured the children's weight and advised their parents on how to supplement nutritious foods to improve their physical condition. Thereby, helping them develop comprehensively physically and mentally to keep up with their peers.

Ms. H Noum Aroh (residing in Buon Don commune) has a 53-month-old child. However, the child unfortunately showed signs of malnutrition, bone loss, and slower growth compared to old age.

Ms. H number shared: "Seeing my son's situation like that, I was very worried, not knowing if he could catch up with his friends or not. Fortunately, thanks to the commune health workers and consulting nutritionists, the family has been able to buy the right type of food to improve their meals. Thanks to that, after 3 months of consultation, my son has gained a slight weight, is excited, comfortable and more active".

Caring for the future of preschool

From many resources, especially the national target program, the government and health forces of Buon Don commune have synchronously implemented the improvement of nutrition for children in ethnic minority areas.

In addition, health workers also screen for malnutrition, guide meals to supplement nutrients for children and improve environmental sanitation and clean water.

At the same time, health workers in villages and hamlets become an important bridge, reaching each household to guide how to choose healthy food, cook and monitor the health of children.
