Thousands of people including soldiers, police and people spent the night rescuing the An Luong sea dyke in Duy Nghia commune, Da Nang, protecting the residential area at the end of Thu Bon river.

The flood peak on Thu Bon River at Cau Lau reached 5.65 - 5.70m, 1.65 - 1.7m above alert level 3, 0.17 - 0.22m higher than the historical flood (in 1964) 5.17 - 0.22m (The flood peak in 1964 was 5.48m); in Hoi An it reached 3.45 - 3.50m, 1.45 - 1.50m above alert level 3, 0.05 - 0.50m higher than the historical flood in 1964 0.05 - 0.1m...

Tens of thousands of houses and urban areas along the Thu Bon and Vu Gia rivers were deeply flooded, with some tops falling. Floods caused landslides in mountainous and downstream areas, and seaports.

In Duy Nghia commune - the end of Thu Bon river, south - to Cua Dai beach, there was a serious landslide at An Luong market. From the afternoon to the night of October 29, nearly 1,000 people, including officers and soldiers of Division 315 (Military Region 5), police forces, militia, union members and people of Duy Nghia commune, stayed up all night to reinforce the An Luong sea embankment in heavy rain, strong waves and high tides.

The coastal area of An Luong has been continuously hit by waves for tens of meters in recent days. Although the authorities and people have made efforts to overcome the situation, by the evening of October 29, the situation continued to develop complicatedly. A new landslide suddenly appeared, directly threatening the embankment and coastal residential areas.

In case of emergency, Duy Nghia commune mobilized all local forces with the support of Division 315. Nearly 100 officers and soldiers directly went to the scene, coordinating the transportation of thousands of sandbags, rocks and materials to reinforce the embankment body. Dozens of trucks of local people were mobilized to transport sand from Tay Son Dong beach to An Luong fishing port area to serve the rescue work.

In heavy rain, strong waves, weak soil makes it difficult for vehicles to access, most of the work is done by soldiers and people using human resources. Under the temporary lights in the cold rain, people divided sandbags, tied bags, and piled up directly at the landslide site with the determination to protect the embankment and keep the residential area and fishing wharf safe.

By dawn on October 30, the main landslides had been basically temporarily reinforced, reducing the risk of embankment breakage. Thanks to timely intervention and solidarity, the armed forces and people have prevented and limited damage, ensuring safety for hundreds of coastal households in An Luong.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa, Secretary of Duy Nghia commune, Da Nang city, said that the area near An Luong embankment has over 300 households and a wholesale market and a sea gate. The landslides not only threaten safety during this historic flood but also warn of long-term insecurity. With the help of armed forces and people, the An Luong embankment was temporarily maintained and no longer eroded, but it is necessary to find a solid long-term solution.

Local authorities continue to arrange forces to be on duty, monitor weather developments, and prepare response plans if floods and high tides continue to rise.
