Binh Thai intersection is located on Hanoi Highway (now Vo Nguyen Giap Street), considered a strategic connection point of the East of Ho Chi Minh City. This intersection connects key traffic routes leading to Cat Lai Port, high-tech parks, National Highway 1, and Ring Road 2. Due to the high traffic volume, Binh Thai intersection has become a frequent traffic jam during rush hour for many years.

The upgrading and expansion of Binh Thai intersection, including the construction of overpasses and underpasses, is considered an urgent solution to reduce traffic conflicts and ensure continuous traffic.
According to Lao Dong, at Binh Thai intersection during rush hour, traffic traffic through here is very heavy, often causing long traffic jams, making it difficult for people to move.

Mr. Hoang Van Dung (residing in Thu Duc ward) shared: "Binh Thai intersection is a classic bottleneck of the East. Coming here to work, I often have to leave an hour earlier to avoid traffic jams. Designing both overpasses and underpasses is a very reasonable solution, helping vehicles run smoothly, without conflicts. I hope this time, the plan will go hand in hand with the action. If we can solve Binh Thai, traffic pressure on Hanoi Highway will be greatly reduced".
According to the Ho Chi Minh City Traffic Construction Investment Project Management Board (Traffic Board), the Binh Thai intersection project belongs to Component Project 1 - Construction of Ho Chi Minh City Ring Road 2 (from Phu Huu Bridge to Vo Nguyen Giap Street).

According to the approved plan, Binh Thai intersection will be designed to include:
Steel overpass in the direction of Ring Road 2 across Vo Nguyen Giap Street.
Underpasses on the Vo Nguyen Giap parallel road.
These items will help vehicles circulate continuously, eliminating cross-section conflicts in areas that are often overloaded.
The Traffic Department is urgently completing investment preparation procedures for the project. XL01 package (main road section): The Traffic Department has submitted to the Department of Construction for appraisal of the construction drawing design and is expected to organize the contractor selection in November 2025. This package is expected to start construction at the end of November 2025.

XL02 package (Binh Thai intersection): The Traffic Department is urgently preparing, appraising and approving the construction drawing design. The XL02 package is expected to start construction at the end of December 2025.
Notably, along with Binh Thai intersection, the construction package for the Ring Road 2 - Pham Van Dong intersection is also expected to start construction in December 2025.
The Traffic Department noted that the progress of these sections depends largely on site clearance, which is handled by the Thu Duc City Compensation and Site Clearance Department.

The units set a determined goal of completing the land acquisition of the entire section from Phu Huu Bridge to Road 79 and the section from Binh Thai intersection to Pham Van Dong Street by early November 2025, creating a clean land fund for construction.
In case of still no consensus, the administrative measure of revocation will be applied in December 2025, ensuring the project's progress.

In particular, section 3 of Ring Road 2 is implemented in the form of a BT (Build - Transfer) contract, organized by the investor. The Traffic Department was assigned by the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee to supervise the State over this project.
