The Southern Institute of Water Resources Research warns of the risk of flooding in some places in the Mekong Delta due to the impact of storm Kalmaegi.

According to the Southern Institute of Water Resources Research, currently, the strong southwest monsoon is coinciding with the high tide in the Cai Lon river mouth area, causing the water level here to rise.

The highest water level at 7:00 a.m. on November 3, 2025 at the mouth of Cai Lon River (Rach Gia Bay Station) was 1.15 m, at the beginning of Xeo Ro Canal was 1.15 m, and at the downstream of Cai Lon and Cai Be culverts was 1.11 m. The water level at stations in the fields is also at a high level, at Dong Yen station it reached 0.83m, Go Quao reached 0.98m.

The Southern Institute of Water Resources Research forecasts that water levels at most locations in the region will tend to increase from now (November 3) to November 11, 2025, and reach the highest level from November 8 11. In the downstream of Cai Lon culvert, the largest water level is forecast to appear on November 8-9, reaching +1.25 ÷ +1.32m.

The impact of storm Kalmaegi on the area is mainly due to light rainfall, combined with increased impact due to the increase in the Southwest during the high tides in the Cai Lon and Cai Be rivers. The water level at the stations in the region is forecast to increase by 3cm to 7cm compared to the previous forecast. There is a high risk of flooding and overflowing water in the embankment affecting production in some low-lying areas in An Minh, An Bien, Dong Hoa, Vinh Thuan, Vinh Binh communes of An Giang province. Inner-field areas affected by upstream flood water and inland rain such as Binh Hoa, Go Quao, Long Thanh, Vinh Hoa Hung communes of An Giang province, Hong Dan commune, Vinh Loc in Ca Mau province, Vinh Vien commune, Vinh Thuan Dong in Can Tho city have high water levels and can cause local flooding.

To prevent the impact of storm Kalmaegi causing heavy rain in the area from November 5-10, 2025. The Southern Institute of Water Resources Research recommends that Cai Lon, Cai Be, and Xeo Ro sluices need to operate flexibly in terms of time and number of valve gates to control tides and support water drainage from November 5-10, 2025.

Specifically, Cai Lon culvert flexibly closed 5.7,9/11 valve gates, opened 11/11 valve gates.

Cai Be culvert is closed, 2/2 valve gates are open. The Xeo Ro culvert is still closed/open according to local requirements.
