From April 28, the two expressways Bai Vot - Ham Nghi and Ham Nghi - Vung Ang (also known as Bai Vot - Vung Ang) with a length of nearly 90km officially opened the route, creating favorable conditions for people and drivers to shorten their travel journey.
Since then, the traffic volume of vehicles choosing this expressway has increased, especially at the National Highway 12C intersection in Ky Tan commune, Ky Anh district - where the largest concentration of vehicles entering and exiting the expressway is among the 6 intersections in Ha Tinh.

Currently, because the Vung Ang - Bung expressway component project has not been completed, the intersection on National Highway 12C has become an important starting and ending point for traffic flows from the North - South and vice versa.
The 2km section of National Highway 12C, connecting from the National Highway 1 intersection (Kyi Anh town bypass) to the expressway intersection, is carrying a large amount of traffic, leading to peeling and severe damage to the road surface.

Not only serving domestic vehicles and vehicles entering the highway, National Highway 12C is also the main route for tractor-trailers carrying goods from Cha Lo International Border Gate (Quang Binh province) to Vung Ang Economic Zone. Traffic pressure has caused the old road to deteriorate further.
The Road Management Office II.1 (under Road Management Area II, Vietnam Road Administration) said that since the Bai Vot - Vung Ang Expressway was put into operation, the traffic volume has increased dramatically, making traffic safety on National Highway 12C more complicated.

Faced with this situation, the management unit has been requested to strengthen measures to ensure traffic safety. At the same time, the Vietnam Road Administration has also approved a project to periodically repair the route. Currently, the contractor is completing procedures to promptly deploy construction, repair damage, and ensure safe infrastructure for exploitation.
According to the assessment, after the Vung Ang - Bung expressway is completed (expected to open to traffic on August 19) and put into operation, the traffic volume on National Highway 12C will decrease compared to the present.
