On December 12, the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board (PMB) said that it is organizing the selection of construction contractors; the site is ready, striving to start the expansion of the Cam Lo - La Son expressway on December 19, 2025.
Previously, in October 2024, the Government approved the investment policy for the North-South expressway expansion project in the East, Cam Lo - La Son section, increasing the scale from 2 lanes to 4 lanes.
The route is about 98.35 km long, with a total investment of more than VND 6,488 billion.
According to the plan, the starting point of the project is at Km0+000 (Quang Tri province), continuing the final section of the Van Ninh - Cam Lo expressway. The end point is at Km102+200 (Hue City), connecting to the starting point of the La Son - Hoa Lien Expressway.
The investment scope includes expanding roadbeds, road surfaces and ancillary works along the entire route, ensuring synchronous technical infrastructure, meeting 4-lane standards.
The Cam Lo - La Son Expressway is 98.3 km long, passing through two localities including Quang Tri (37.3 km) and Hue City (61 km). The route started construction in September 2019 and will be put into operation from the end of 2022, with a total initial investment of about VND 7,669 billion.
In addition, according to the Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board, the forecast of the Department of Hydrometeorology shows that in December 2025, there is a possibility of 1-2 storms appearing in the East Sea, which can directly affect the Central and South Central regions, causing heavy rain, risk of further formation of slides and landslides on the La Son - Hoa Lien expressway.

Although the Project Management Board has arranged human resources and equipment to be on duty for timely handling, the risk of unsafety when traveling at night is still tiem nang. Therefore, to ensure the safety of people and vehicles, the Project Management Board continues to implement a temporary traffic organization plan on the La Son - Hoa Lien Expressway.
The section Km50+700 - Km50+800 continues to organize the circulation of 1 lane, arranging forces to regulate 24/24 hours; the remaining sections are circulating at a maximum speed of 50km/h. The monitoring period lasts 30 days (from December 6, 2025 to January 6, 2026). After this time, if safety conditions are met, a two-lane route will be opened.
The Project Management Board coordinates with the Traffic Police of localities to direct traffic and prohibit passenger cars and trucks on 6 axes from traveling on the route from 5:00 a.m. on December 6, 2025 to 5:00 p.m. on January 6, 2026; the remaining vehicles are only allowed to travel from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. daily. After that time, the authorities will evaluate to allow the traffic to return to normal.
The Ho Chi Minh Road Project Management Board recommends that people and vehicle owners proactively choose a suitable route to ensure safety; at the same time, request the Traffic Police Department of local police to guide, remind and regulate, not to let vehicles enter dangerous sections.
