The North-South Expressway project, Cao Bo - Mai Son section, was started in December 2019 with a total main route length of 15.2km; 22km of service roads; the entire route has 7 bridges and 3 people's underpasses.
The project is invested by Ninh Binh Provincial Department of Transport (now Department of Construction) and has completed phase 1 and put into operation from the beginning of 2022. Currently, the investor is deploying expansion from 4 lanes to 6 complete lanes, along with a smart traffic system (ITS); vehicle load control system; toll stations are built synchronously according to highway standards. It is expected that the entire project will be completed and put into use in August 2026.
Mr. Nguyen Viet Ngoc - Director of the Construction Investment Project Management Board (under the Ninh Binh Provincial Department of Construction) - said that currently the investor is urging contractors to focus manpower and machinery to accelerate the project progress. The project construction is still ensuring the set progress.
The deployment of the installation of intelligent transportation systems (ITS); vehicle load control systems and non-stop toll stations, this is one of the items of the Cao Bo - Mai Son expressway expansion project. Currently, the Department of Economics and Construction Investment Management is appraising technical design documents.
Also according to Mr. Ngoc, according to the plan, the Cao Bo - Mai Son expressway expansion project will be completed by the end of 2026. However, currently the Ministry of Construction is drastically directing investors to urgently deploy the construction of an intelligent traffic management system, non-stop electronic toll collection and vehicle load control at component projects of public investment belonging to the North - South expressway projects in the East to implement the toll collection for expressway use.
Meanwhile, the Cao Bo - Mai Son expressway expansion project is under construction, unable to be completed in time to deploy the installation of smart traffic systems and non-stop electronic toll collection...
According to the plan, the deployment of building a smart traffic management system, non-stop electronic toll collection and vehicle load control on the Cao Bo - Mai Son expressway will be completed and put into use in August 2026" - Mr. Ngoc said.
The Ministry of Construction has also issued a document requesting the Ninh Binh Provincial Department of Construction to urgently deploy a smart traffic management system, electronic non-stop toll collection and vehicle load control on the Cao Bo - Mai Son expressway.
Accordingly, the Ministry of Construction requests the Ninh Binh Provincial Department of Construction to urgently carry out procedures for appraisal and approval of design dossiers and estimates for the design step implemented after the basic design according to regulations.
At the same time, selecting contractors, signing contracts and starting construction for items belonging to the intelligent traffic management system, non-stop electronic toll collection and vehicle load control of the Cao Bo - Mai Son expressway project.
Deploy solutions to accelerate the implementation progress and prioritize early deployment for the non-stop electronic toll collection system to ensure that it does not affect the toll collection deployment at component projects of public investment belonging to the North-South Expressway in the East from the beginning of 2026.
