On the morning of February 18 (ie, the 2nd day of the Lunar New Year of Binh Ngo), according to Lao Dong's records, the Cao Bo - Mai Son expressway (section near Cao Bo toll station) was congested for a long time in the direction from Thanh Hoa to Hanoi.
The flow of vehicles moving towards Hanoi and the roads of Hung Yen and Ninh Binh were seriously congested, cars lined up in long rows. The main reason was the sudden increase in the number of vehicles on the morning of the 2nd day of Tet.

In the opposite direction, the direction to Thanh Hoa is clear, and vehicles move easily.
Due to prolonged traffic jams, many drivers got out of their cars and stood on the road to observe.

Ms. Le Thi Lien (30 years old, from Thanh Hoa) and her family moved from Hau Loc to Hai Phong to celebrate Tet with her paternal grandparents. Although she chose to move in the early morning, due to traffic jams, the car only moved a few meters at a time.
According to the initial schedule, the bus would only arrive at about 12 pm, but due to highway congestion, the travel time will be longer, making her and her young child feel tired.
Due to highway congestion, many drivers have had to change their travel schedules, accepting longer schedules to reduce congestion time.

Previously, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Manh Thang - Head of Highway Traffic Police Team No. 3 (Department of Traffic Police) said that the unit has deployed 15 motorbikes to patrol along the Phap Van - Cao Bo - Mai Son - National Highway 45 - Nghi Son (Phap Van - Nghi Son) expressway to promptly handle traffic accidents and solve congestion.
According to the Head of Highway Traffic Police Team No. 3, based on the actual situation every year, the traffic volume has increased sharply during the peak of Tet Nguyen Dan travel, so right from this morning, the unit has deployed mobile patrol motorbike teams on the entire route.

The unit arranged 15 working groups, each group including one traffic police officer and one mobile police officer, using specialized motorcycles to move in the emergency lane on the expressway.
The task force will use loudspeakers to remind drivers to drive at the correct speed, maintain a safe distance, and promptly handle accident situations or vehicles encountering problems to avoid prolonged congestion," Senior Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Manh Thang said.
