On April 14, Quang Tri Provincial General Hospital said that the unit had just received and successfully treated a case of a child patient swallowing a dangerous foreign object, a 2.5cm long screw.
The patient is L.B. N. (21 months old), residing in Gio Linh commune, admitted to the hospital in a state of sharp foreign object choking. According to the family, after the baby swallowed the screws, relatives patted his back to handle it but caused the foreign object to drift deeper into the body.
Through examination and X-ray, doctors determined that the foreign object was in the stomach, with the risk of causing digestive tract perforation and serious bleeding if not intervened in time.
Faced with the emergency situation, doctors from the Departments of Emergency Resuscitation, Functional Endoscopy and Anesthesia and Resuscitation quickly held an inter-specialized consultation and decided to perform anesthesia-free emergency endoscopy.
The intervention was carried out urgently, and doctors successfully removed the foreign object, the screw, from the patient's body, ensuring safety. After intervention, the child's health recovered well and the condition stabilized.
