In mid-April, records at the embankment construction site against riverbank erosion in the Red River section passing through Bao Thang commune (Lao Cai province) showed that the construction atmosphere was urgent.
Along the route about 2km long, from the Son Ha water plant area to the location about 800m downstream from Pho Lu bridge, many machines and equipment are mobilized to the maximum.

Construction teams are organized along the riverbank with the participation of excavators, trucks transporting materials, and workers working continuously at the scene.
Important items such as digging foundation pits and reinforcing the embankment foundation have been completed, and the embankment body is currently being deployed simultaneously.
Through investigation, the embankment project to prevent riverbank erosion here has a total investment of about 170 billion VND, belongs to group B, and is a level I agricultural and rural development project.

The embankment line is designed in the form of a village wall - village slope combined with an inclined roof, using about 12ha of land, playing a key role in protecting land, infrastructure and riverside residential areas.
According to assessments, this area is frequently affected by landslides during the rainy and flood season, posing a potential risk of unsafety for houses and essential works. Therefore, the early completion of the dyke line is important in reducing disaster risks.

At the construction site, construction materials are gathered into areas for convenient construction. Workers work in shifts, taking advantage of favorable weather to speed up progress. However, the implementation process is inevitably difficult.
On days when the Red River water level rises, construction is forced to be temporarily suspended, waiting for the water to recede before continuing. This has a significant impact on the overall progress of the project.

Mr. Le Minh Truong - technical officer of Corporation 319 (Ministry of National Defense) - said that the contractor currently maintains more than 20 workers regularly present at the construction site. Up to now, the construction volume has reached about 80%.
The prices of building materials, gasoline and labor costs have all increased, putting great pressure on the implementation process. However, the unit is still making efforts to overcome them to ensure progress. The goal is to complete the top of the embankment surface by June 30 to promptly respond to the flood season," Mr. Truong informed.

Information from the Lao Cai Provincial Construction Investment Project Management Board said that the investor is regularly sticking to the construction site, urging contractors to mobilize maximum manpower and equipment. Opening an additional construction front is considered an important solution to shorten implementation time.
The project is implemented in the 2024-2025 period using contingency funds from the central budget and local budgets. According to the adjusted plan, the project strives to be completed before the 2026 rainy and flood season.
When completed and put into use, the Red River embankment in Bao Thang commune will not only be of urgent significance but also a long-term solution to protect the safety of people and develop the riverside area sustainably.
