National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man signed and issued Resolution No. 1280/NQ-UBTVQH15 on the arrangement of district and commune administrative units of Son La province for the 2023-2025 period.
Resolution to establish Moc Chau town on the basis of the entire natural area of 1,072.09 km2 and population of 148,259 people of Moc Chau district.
Moc Chau town borders Bac Yen, Phu Yen, Van Ho, Yen Chau districts and the Lao People's Democratic Republic.
According to Lao Dong's research, the plan to establish Moc Chau town was proposed in 2021. During the formation process, many important results were achieved: Construction planning, framework infrastructure projects, attracting non-budgetary resources; urban landscape... were continuously improved.
Before becoming a town, Moc Chau district was a mountainous district of Son La province. Thanks to its terrain and cool climate, the district has promoted agricultural production and developed tourism and services.
This place has now become an attractive destination for tourists on the Northwest travel itinerary. On May 18, 2024, Moc Chau tourist area was recognized as a National Tourist Area.
After Moc Chau town was established, there were a total of 15 commune-level administrative units. Of these, 8 new wards were established, including Binh Minh, Co Do, Dong Sang, Moc Ly, Moc Son, Muong Sang, Thao Nguyen, and Van Son.
Accordingly, the resolution established Moc Ly ward on the basis of a natural area of 7.03 km2 and a population of 8,546 people of Moc Chau town.
Establish Moc Son ward on the basis of the entire natural area of 7.22 km2 and population of 10,337 people of Moc Chau town.
Establish Binh Minh ward on the basis of a natural area of 16.85 km2 and a population of 8,667 people of Moc Chau Farm town.
Establish Thao Nguyen ward on the basis of a part of the natural area of 17.02 km2 and a population of 14,803 people of Moc Chau Farm town.
Establish Co Do ward on the basis of a part of the natural area of 36.07 km2 and a population of 10,030 people of Moc Chau Farm town.
Establish Van Son ward on the basis of merging a part of the natural area of 6.19 km2, the total population of 5,556 people of Moc Chau Farm town after adjustment according to regulations and a part of the natural area of 16.57 km2, the total population of 4,798 people of Phieng Luong commune.
After its establishment, Van Son ward had a natural area of 22.76 km2 and a population of 10,354 people.
Establish Dong Sang ward on the basis of a part of the natural area of 30.66 km2 and the entire population of 9,288 people of Dong Sang commune.
Establish Muong Sang ward on the basis of a natural area of 20.66 km2 and a population of 11,495 people of Muong Sang commune.
This Resolution comes into force from February 1, 2025.
