On December 6, the Border Guard of Quang Tri province said that it had just rescued 2 fishermen whose boat sank while casting nets to catch seafood outside the Gianh estuary.
On the night of December 5, the Cang Gianh Border Guard Station coordinated with the Border Guard Squadron 1, the Khanh Minh 09 transport ship and a local fishing boat to conduct a search after receiving a report of a small boat sinking.
At 6:20 p.m., the Khanh Minh 09 ship, captained by Nguyen Quang Cong, was sailing into Gianh Port when it discovered a person drifting at sea and rescued him.
The victims were identified as Mr. Nguyen Van Nhan (born in 1980), and Mr. Nguyen Duc Thuan (born in 1981), both residing in Tan My residential group, Bac Gianh ward. 2 fishermen took a small boat out to sea to cast a net, the boat was flooded and gradually sank. Mr. Nhan was rescued by a cargo ship, while Mr. Thuan clung to the floating and drifting boat.
Upon receiving the information, the Cang Gianh Border Guard Station reported to the Provincial Border Guard Command, and mobilized fishing boats anchored to support rescue, informing local authorities and related forces.
Border Guard Squadron 1 deployed vehicles and 8 mobile soldiers to search. The Cang Gianh Border Gate Station maintained contact with cargo ships and mobilized fishing boat QB-98061-TS and 4 crew members captained by Mr. Nguyen Van Thong to coordinate the search.
At 9:00 p.m. the same day, the authorities discovered and put Nguyen Duc Thuan on the boat safely, and pulled the boat into Gianh Gate.
The unit informed the locality and the forces to stop searching and organizing military medical check-ups to check the health of the two fishermen before handing them over to the family.
