Dak Lak reinforces river banks at high risk of landslides

Dak Lak provincial authorities are reviewing, monitoring, and reinforcing river banks and areas at high risk of landslides during the rainy and stormy season.

On September 22, the Standing Office of the Dak Lak Provincial Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue informed that in the coming days, due to the influence of storm No. 4, Dak Lak will continue to have moderate to heavy rain. Many areas will be at risk of flash floods on small rivers and streams. In particular, on steep slopes with loose, weak soil and riverside areas in the districts of Ea Sup, Ea H'leo, Krong Buk, Cu M'gar, Cu Kuin, Buon Don... landslides are very likely to occur.

According to statistics, there are currently about 100 locations at risk of landslides at varying levels.

Mr. Nguyen Ba Ban - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ea Sup district informed that the locality is one of the vulnerable areas of the province. This place is often damaged by floods, making people's lives difficult.

This year, the unit has proposed that the competent authority reinforce an embankment at high risk of landslides in Ea Rok commune to ensure people's safety when traveling during the rainy season.

Mr. Nguyen Hoai Duong - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Dak Lak province - confirmed: "The Provincial People's Committee has issued a document directing localities to closely monitor weather developments to have timely response plans to natural disasters. In particular, localities must develop specific plans for each location to be ready to respond to situations at different levels. In the immediate future, there must be response measures when natural disasters occur and build relocation projects to ensure long-term safety for people."

According to the Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee, the unit has assigned relevant localities to synthesize areas with landslides or high risk of landslides.

The Department of Planning and Investment shall take the lead in advising the Provincial People's Committee to allocate public investment capital according to the plan approved by competent authorities. Priority shall be given to the construction of works to protect river banks and streams in densely populated areas, important infrastructure that cannot be relocated... to respond to natural disasters.
