On December 30, Mr. Nguyen Thien Van - Vice Chairman of Dak Lak Provincial People's Committee signed a document to send to the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development, Department of Industry and Trade, Department of Health, Provincial Police and Buon Ma Thuot City People's Committee regarding the case of bean sprouts soaked with banned active ingredients.
According to the People's Committee of Dak Lak province, in recent days, press agencies have published articles about bean sprouts soaked in banned substances.
The Provincial People's Committee assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to preside over and coordinate with relevant agencies and units to urgently inspect and verify the content reported by the press.
The competent authority reported on food safety management activities for 6 bean sprout production facilities using banned substances. The Provincial People's Committee also requested a report on the results of the investigation, tracing, and recall of bean sprout products circulating on the market.
State management agencies in this field need to have solutions to manage bean sprout production and trading establishments. Thereby, timely rectification is needed to ensure effectiveness and efficiency in food safety management in the area.
As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, the authorities simultaneously inspected 6 bean sprout production facilities in Buon Ma Thuot city, including 2 facilities of Lam Van Dao (born in 1990), residing in Ea Tu commune; 2 facilities of Vu Duy Tu (born in 1991); 1 facility of Nguyen Van Quynh (born in 1973) and 1 facility of Nguyen Van Hao (born in 1988), all in Tan Hoa ward.
During the inspection, the subjects confessed that in the process of producing bean sprouts, they used lime, well water and a colorless liquid. The colorless liquid was often called "candy" water by the subjects.
According to the Economic Police Department, Dak Lak Provincial Police, the "candy" water is the active ingredient 6-Benzylaminopurine. This active ingredient is not on the list of substances permitted for use in food production and the list of pesticides permitted for use in Vietnam.
Six businesses sold about 2,900 tons of bean sprouts soaked in banned chemicals. On average, each facility produces 8 to 10 tons of bean sprouts per day.
