Skilled, with income
Vocational training and job placement are important criteria in building new rural areas and sustainable poverty reduction in the mountainous areas of Quang Binh province. Vocational training courses for workers in mountainous areas and ethnic minority areas have opened up job opportunities for many people.
Currently, Minh Hoa district has promoted vocational training and career orientation in many forms, raising awareness of ethnic minorities in choosing suitable careers.
Before attending the vocational training course, Mr. Dinh Quang Thao (Tan Xuan village, Xuan Hoa commune, Minh Hoa district) had a very difficult life due to his family's income from a few fields of rice and hired labor. After completing the veterinary and forest care course, he applied his knowledge to develop a livestock farming model combined with forest planting.
Gradually expanding, he has expanded the area of the barn. Up to now, each year he raises 4 batches of chickens with about 4,000 chickens; about 60 pigs, sows and plants 4 hectares of forest. After deducting all expenses, each year he earns about 300 million VND.
Mr. Thao shared: "Participating in vocational training is a great opportunity for me. When applied in practice, science and technology will be more effective, and my family will also improve their income and stabilize their lives."
In Hoa Hop commune (Minh Hoa district), people have long been raising bees for honey, but traditional methods often encounter many difficulties in protecting the health of bees as well as production efficiency. After attending a beekeeping class, Mr. Dinh Van Nuong and many local people have been exposed to more scientific beekeeping methods, helping to increase productivity and income.
Mr. Nuong confided: “Here, we have the advantage of being close to the forest, so the source of food for the bees is abundant. Along with learning new beekeeping techniques, the bees are more effective in preventing diseases, thanks to which, the quality of the products is also better.”
Vocational training associated with local characteristics
To achieve effectiveness in vocational training, localities have relied on the actual needs of the people and their own strengths, thereby choosing suitable and effective occupations.
In addition to beekeeping, other occupations such as mushroom growing; livestock and poultry raising; food processing; vegetable growing, forestry... are also being trained at vocational training institutions in the region. These occupations not only help increase the value of agricultural products but are also suitable for the natural conditions of the mountainous areas.
Ms. Cao Thi My Nhan, Director of the Center for Vocational Education and Continuing Education of Minh Hoa District, said: “Vocational training does not only stop at providing knowledge, but also helps people apply it effectively in production. The Center is also aiming to connect learners with cooperatives to consume products, contributing to consumption and increasing income for ethnic minorities.”
Vocational training for rural workers has contributed to shifting the labor structure in line with the local socio-economic development orientation.
