Mr. Lo Van Cuong - Vice Chairman of Dien Bien Provincial People's Committee has just signed Decision No. 2145, approving the economic - technical report to invest in the construction of the repair and remediation project of Nam Rom Irrigation Works (the right canal section K9H+800m to K10H+300m Thanh Hung and the C2, C3 Thanh Yen canals).
Accordingly, the project belongs to the Agricultural and Rural Development Project, Group C, Level IV, invested by the Provincial Agricultural and Rural Development Project Management Board. The minimum life of use according to the design of the main project is 15 years.
The project has a total investment of 6 billion VND, supported by the central budget reserve in Decision No. 1660/QD-TTg dated December 26, 2024 of the Prime Minister. Implementation progress in 2025.
The project is undergoing repairs in Thanh Nua and Thanh Yen communes, in the direction of the existing construction line.
Accordingly, in the right canal section K9H+800m to K10H+300m Thanh Hung, the damaged stone canal will be demolished and a new canal will be rebuilt with a total length of over 185m...
At canals C2, C3 Thanh Yen, demolish 130m of damaged stone embankments; build a new embankment with a total length of 788.4m (of which the right embankment is over 386m long and the left embankment is over 401m long). The project on the route, installed 8 fields drainage pipes and repaired 1 water deflector.
The goal of the project is to overcome the damage caused by natural disasters, effectively prevent water loss, ensure safety for the right canal of the Nam Rom Great Irrigation Works and ensure irrigation water for 40 hectares of the canal's 2 crops.
On October 3, 1963, the Nam Rom Irrigation Project was officially started with the participation of more than 2,000 young volunteers. After nearly 7 years of construction, the project was completed in 1969. By 2004, the level 1 canal system of this project was concreted.
Nam Rom Irrigation works are currently managed by Dien Bien Irrigation Management Company Limited. The project is responsible for providing irrigation water for the entire Muong Thanh field - the largest rice granary in the Northwest region.
