Khe Can is an area that often floods every time there is heavy rain. Mr. Le Van Lam (born in 1974, Khe Can residential area, Thanh Khe district) said that most of the houses here have lower floors than the road surface, many households have long had to live in temporary conditions, their houses are damaged and degraded but have not been repaired due to suspended planning.
"This season the weather is hot and sunny, sitting indoors is like a furnace. There are households that are stuck in planning so they cannot repair or re-roof the corrugated iron roof, and the sun just squeees straight into their house, which is very uncomfortable. Many days, households here have to take chairs to the streets, where there are shade and trees sitting in the wind to avoid suffocation" - Mr. Lam said.
The house is only 50 square meters but has lived in about 2-3 generations, Mr. Nguyen Van Than (born in 1968, Khe Can residential area) only has one wish: hoping that the project will be implemented soon, his family can repair the small house.
Living in a dilapidated, cramped house in the middle of summer, Mr. Than described the feeling of the whole family having to spread a mat on the floor to sleep to avoid the heat, the 3 children were "planned" to sleep separately, crowded in the narrow attic.
According to Mr. Than, when hearing the city's approval of the renovation and reconstruction policy for the Khe Can area, households like him felt excited, just hoping that the project would be implemented on schedule.
Upgrading infrastructure, improving quality of life
According to Lao Dong, the People's Committee of Da Nang City has just issued a Decision approving the investment policy of the urban reconstruction project in Khe Can area (Thanh Khe district) with a total investment of more than 135 billion VND. The project belongs to group C, from the city budget, the implementation period is from 2025-2027.
The People's Committee of Da Nang City said that the investment in the urban reconstruction project in Khe Can area aims to improve the quality of life, upgrade technical and social infrastructure, and aim for sustainable development in the area. The project focuses on renovating the transportation system, water supply and drainage, lighting and public utilities to meet the needs of local people and urban development.
At the same time, the construction will ensure safety, convenience, and compliance with modern planning. Focus on environmental protection, expanding green space, improving wastewater treatment systems to create a clean living environment, solve flooding in the area, improve the quality of life of the people, ensure social security, promote sustainable development of the locality. The project has a total of 449 records of clearance, implementing partial clearance for 424 records; arranging resettlement for 25 households to be completely cleared.
Talking to Lao Dong, Mr. Dang Van Duc - Head of Residential Group No. 20 (Khe Can residential area, Thanh Khe district) said that in recent years, Khe Can has been an area that often experiences deep flooding every time there is heavy rain.
Previously, the People's Committee of Da Nang City also decided to invest in traffic connection and drainage treatment in the Khe Can drainage area with a total investment of about 10 billion VND, to solve the immediate flooding problem every time there is heavy rain.
According to Mr. Dang Van Duc, the majority of people here agree and hope that the project will be implemented soon so that they can stabilize their lives and build and repair more solid houses. The problem of flooding and "living together" with suspended projects has been reflected many times by people in meetings and meetings with voters of wards and cities.
Mr. Duc also proposed that the city should ensure the renovation progress in the 2025-2027 period, implemented soon after completing the merger of provinces and cities. At the same time, it is necessary to make the construction plan and contractor selection transparent so that people can clearly understand, coordinate implementation, contribute to speeding up the project progress, soon complete the appearance of a green, clean and beautiful residential area, helping people stabilize their lives.
