The project to upgrade National Highway 32C, Hien Luong - Yen Bai City (old) section was started phase 1 in 2012, section from Km79 - Km87; Phase 2 started in 2021, section from Km87+150 - Km96+500, passing through Au Lau ward (Lao Cai province).
The project is invested by the Investment and Construction Project Management Board No. 1 of Lao Cai province, and the construction unit is Yen Bai Transport Construction Joint Stock Company.
During the implementation process, the project was constructed halfway, interrupted, and lasted for more than 13 years, with many times having to extend the implementation progress.
In the last days of the year, on the construction site of the National Highway 32C upgrade project, the construction atmosphere is urgent and bustling. On the construction site, machinery is operating bustlingly, vehicles carrying materials in and out in droves, the sound of excavators and levelers is loud.
Workers are divided into many groups and teams to complete each assigned item.
According to observations, the remaining section near Lao Cai General Hospital No. 1 has a total length of about 2 km, which has been expanded synchronously for both the road surface and sidewalks. Currently, construction teams are closely following each item, taking advantage of each period of time and favorable weather to accelerate progress.
Mr. Nguyen Quoc Thinh - Director of Yen Bai Transport Construction Joint Stock Company - shared: Up to this point, the project has basically completed the main part. The unit is focusing on completion work, such as: curbs, sidewalks and auxiliary items, ensuring requirements for aesthetics, quality and traffic safety.
The brothers determined that this is the key stage of the project. Taking advantage of favorable weather, teams organize overtime, shift division, and construction of 3-4 consecutive teams to compensate for progress, striving to complete the entire project before the 2026 Lunar New Year according to instructions," Mr. Thinh said.
Mr. Nong Van Hien - Deputy Head of Construction Investment Project Management Board No. 1 of Lao Cai province - said: From July 1, 2025, the local government at 2 levels will go into operation, the merger of agencies related to site clearance along with changes in guidelines and policies has caused this work to be interrupted, not meeting the progress requirements.
Up to now, the project has been removed from arising difficulties. This is the final stage of the project, so the units are focusing maximum resources to complete the remaining items, clean up the construction site, and prepare the necessary conditions for acceptance, handover and putting the project into operation".
According to Mr. Hien, when the project to upgrade National Highway 32C section Hien Luong - old Yen Bai City is completed and put into operation, the road will become an important traffic axis, strengthening connectivity with the urban center and neighboring localities.
Wide road surface and synchronous infrastructure help traffic and transport goods more conveniently and safely, reducing pressure on existing networks, while creating a foundation to promote socio-economic development and urban space renovation in the area.
