On the evening of December 15, the leader of Duy Xuyen district said that the heavy rains that have lasted for the past few days combined with the release of water from some upstream hydroelectric reservoirs have caused many low-lying areas in the district to be cut off and isolated by floodwaters.
Nearly 700 households in Dong Binh village (Duy Vinh commune), Le Bac village (Duy Chau commune) and Van Buong hamlet (Duy Trinh commune) of Duy Xuyen district have been isolated by rising floodwaters. Many of the only routes to this area are deeply flooded, and authorities have set up barriers and advised people not to travel in dangerous areas.
Since the afternoon of December 14, many inter-village and inter-hamlet routes in Duy Trung, Duy Thanh, Duy Phuoc, and Duy Trinh communes have been flooded with water depths ranging from 0.3 to 0.6 meters; National Highway 14H through Kieu Chau village, Duy Son commune is flooded for a section of about 200 meters and 0.3 meters deep; DH1 and DH8 roads through Duy Son commune are also deeply flooded and cut off, causing difficulties for people to travel.
Faced with that situation, local shock forces set up checkpoints and requisitioned large trucks to transport people through flooded sections.
The Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention and Search and Rescue of Duy Xuyen district and the authorities of communes and towns have arranged forces to be on duty in areas with deep flooding and strong currents. They have asked people to limit traveling by boat when not necessary and absolutely do not allow people to go to rivers and streams to fish or collect firewood.
As of the evening of December 15, Duy Xuyen district had dozens of hectares of winter vegetables including okra, water spinach, jute, lettuce... completely damaged due to flooding and crushing.
