Sharing on social media on October 9, a resident in Phan Dinh Phung ward, Thai Nguyen province posted an ad in search of 2 cars of his family swept away in the flood even though these cars had been covered with tarpaulins to prevent water from entering the car.
According to the content of the article and the posted image of the vehicle owner, when seeing the flood water tending to rise, the family covered the 2 cars with tarpaulins to avoid getting into the water. However, the water rose faster and higher than expected, causing the vehicle to float and drift with the water.

Just a few minutes after the article was posted on social media, it received a lot of attention from the online community. Even in the comments section, there is a video recording an object suspected to be a car covered with a floating tarpaulin.
Sharing with PV about this incident, Mr. Nguyen Duc Cuong (Tuyen Quang province) - who had to use tarpaulins to cover his family's car during the flood in 2024 - said that tarpaulin covering the car to prevent contact with water is a temporary solution but is quite effective.

"In case you cannot find a high place to move the vehicle, the tarpaulin will help to preserve the vehicle safely during times of danger.
However, when the water rises, the vehicle will also float, so the vehicle must be anchored with a sturdy rope at a fixed point to avoid drifting, avoiding collisions that damage the vehicle," Mr. Cuong advised.
Thai Nguyen is one of the localities that was heavily flooded during the recent heavy rain when the flood on the Cau River reached a record high, more than 1m above alert level 3. Currently, the water has receded slowly, but many places in Thai Nguyen are still flooded and isolated.
