Gia Lai - The issued Resolution has supported people to move freely, disaster and landslide areas have roofs and production places to stabilize their lives.

Preventing free migration

According to the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province, in recent years, the situation of people moving freely to encroach on forestry land for production has become complicated.

For forest land alone, the authorities have mobilized people to declare more than 37,187 hectares. Of which, about 11,000 hectares were illegally encroached.

The province aims to complete the declaration and statistics of the entire encroached forest area by the end of 2025 to reclaim and replant forests, serving socio-economic development.

Migrants are mostly ethnic minorities, with the habit of living in the mountains and forests, often encroaching on land for agricultural cultivation.

During the rainy and stormy season, this area is often affected by natural disasters such as heavy rain, flash floods, etc., causing property damage and threatening people's lives.

Mr. Nguyen Van Hoan - Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province said: "There needs to be a policy to support people to move freely, and a plan to arrange appropriate residential areas to prevent encroachment on forest land. At the same time, creating stable jobs for this part of the population".

In that context, at the end of 2024, the Gia Lai Provincial People's Council issued Resolution No. 106/2024/NQ-HDND, stipulating mechanisms and policies to support the implementation of the resettlement program for residents in Gia Lai province.

From the central and local capital, Gia Lai province will support households in especially difficult circumstances, lacking land and water for daily use; support families and individuals who have lost their homes due to landslides, subsidence, flooding, rising water...; households who have moved freely to live in special-use forests, not according to the plan, and have difficulty living...

Resolution to help people stabilize production

According to the Resolution, local authorities will directly support the relocation of emergency houses due to natural disasters at the rate of 30 million VND/household; support the construction of houses at 44 million VND/household; support the repair of houses at 22 million VND/household; support the exploitation of production land at 22.5 million VND/household; support 15 kg of regular rice/person/month...

Recently, in Phu Thien district, dozens of ethnic minority households happily received their houses in the Suoi Can resettlement area, Ia Sol commune. In the village, there is a convenient transportation infrastructure, 38 spacious and solid houses to help people in mountainous areas and disaster areas settle down and make a living.

The project is implemented from central capital, support from Resolution 106/2024/NQ-HDND and the joint efforts of benefactors, agencies and units in Phu Thien district.

In previous years, 38 households in Suoi Can lived near mountainous areas, and during the rainy and stormy season, there was a risk of landslides, flash floods, and isolated flooding, threatening their lives. To ensure the lives of the people, the People's Committee of Phu Thien district and relevant agencies have organized the establishment and approval of a resettlement project.

The estimated amount of money to complete investment items such as roads, electricity, water, housing, etc. is nearly 20 billion VND.

Ms. Siu H'Phuong (50 years old), a resident of Suoi Can resettlement village, shared: "Now, in the resettlement area, there are spacious houses and land near the production land, so most of the people of Suoi Can are happy and excited. Workers in the village have jobs all year round.

During the sugarcane and potato seasons, people work for hire, with a salary of 200,000 VND/day. When the coffee season comes, they go to Chu Se, Chu Puh, Chu Prong districts... to harvest, have money to cover their living expenses, and send their children to school."

Along with the practical Resolution coming into life, solving livelihoods for people, projects and works have created high consensus among the people, making an important contribution to poverty reduction and consolidating and strengthening the great national unity bloc in the area.
