On June 17, information from the Gia Lai Provincial People's Committee said that regarding the merger with Binh Dinh province to establish the new Gia Lai province, there will be 135 commune-level administrative units, including 110 communes and 25 wards.
Accordingly, the National Assembly Standing Committee has passed Resolution No. 1664/NQ-UBTVQH15 on the arrangement of commune-level administrative units of the new Gia Lai province in 2025.
Of which, 101 communes and 25 wards were formed after the arrangement, along with 9 communes that did not carry out the arrangement, including: Ia O commune, Nhon Chau, Ia Tach, Ia Mo, Ia Pon, Ia Nan, Ia Dom, Ia Chia and Krong. These communes are mainly located along the border of Gia Lai province, in remote areas.
The National Assembly Standing Committee assigned the Government, the People's Council, the People's Committee of Gia Lai province, and local authorities of relevant administrative units to organize the implementation of the Resolution.
At the same time, it is necessary to arrange and stabilize the apparatus of local agencies and organizations, stabilize people's lives, ensure the requirements of socio-economic development, national defense and security in the area.
The National Assembly Standing Committee also assigned the Government to organize the accurate determination of the natural area of commune-level administrative units and publicly announce it before September 30, 2025; at the same time, urgently deploy the work of measuring and determining the boundary scope of administrative units in the field to prepare documents on the boundaries of administrative units.
The Ethnic Council, the National Assembly Committees, the National Assembly Delegation and the National Assembly Delegates of Gia Lai province are responsible for supervising the implementation of this Resolution.

After the merger, the new Gia Lai province will have a natural area of over 21,550km2, the second largest in the country (after the new Lam Dong province), with a population of about 3.5 million people. The new province's political and administrative center will be located in Quy Nhon.
