Vice Chairman of Duong Duc Tuan City People's Committee has just signed and issued Decision No. 4602/QD-UBND dated September 4, 2025 approving the route plan and location of urban railway line No. 5 (Van Cao - Ngoc Khanh - Lang - Hoa Lac section), scale 1/500 in Tay Ho, Ngoc Ha, Giang Vo, Lang, Yen Hoa, Tu Liem, Dai Mo, Tay Mo, Xuan Phuong communes and Son Dong, Duong Hoa, An Khanh, Quoc Oai, Kieu Phu, Tay Phuong, Ha Bang, Yen Xuan, Hoa Lac communes, Hanoi city.
According to the Decision, the route plan and location of urban railway line No. 5 (Van Cao - Ngoc Khanh - Lang - Hoa Lac section), scale 1/500, prepared by the Hanoi Institute of Construction Planning in 2025, will be appraised by the Hanoi Department of Planning and Architecture.
The main line of urban railway No. 5 starts at the Van Cao - Hoang Hoa Tham intersection and ends at Thach Binh station (Hoa Lac), with a total length of about 39.6km. In addition, the project also has 2 branches connecting to Depot No. 1 (in Son Dong commune, Duong Hoa) and Depot No. 2 (in Hoa Lac commune), with a total length of branches of about 4.8km.
The entire line consists of 20 stations, including 6 underground stations, 3 elevated stations, and 11 ground stations. The stations are mainly arranged along Thang Long Avenue and Hoa Lac - Hoa Binh Expressway. In particular, many stations will have direct connections to other urban railway lines such as lines 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, 8 and Monorail M2, creating a seamless transport network.
The main heart includes: the left heart of the route passes through points from T1 to T92; the right heart passes through points from P1 to P86. For the branch heart to Depot 1: the branch heart connecting from An Khanh 2 Station (S11) passes through points from DP1 to DP11; the branch connecting from Song Phuong Station (S12) passes through points from DP12 to DP19. The heart of the branch to Depot No. 2: passes through the points from DP20 to DP23.
According to the design, urban railway line No. 5 has a mixed structure: The underground section extends from Van Cao through Lieu Giai, Nguyen Chi Thanh to Tran Duy Hung. The ground and elevated sections start behind the National Convention Center, continuing along Thang Long Avenue to the end point in Hoa Lac.
The project will arrange two main depots: Depot 1: area of 32 hectares, serving route 5 and route 8 (Son Dong - Duong Xa), and integrates a railway vehicle assembly workshop. Depot 2: area of 10.4ha, located in the Hoa Lac urban area planning.
The City People's Committee assigned the Department of Planning and Architecture to check and confirm the drawings. The Hanoi Urban Railway Management Board will preside over the announcement of the planning and placement of boundary markers. The People's Committees of Tay Ho, Ngoc Ha, Giang Vo, Lang, Yen Hoa, Tu Liem, Dai Mo, Tay Mo, Xuan Phuong wards and the People's Committees of Son Dong, Duong Hoa, An Khanh, Quoc Oai, Kieu Phu, Tay Phuong, Ha Bang, Yen Xuan, Hoa Lac communes will manage land and boundary markers according to the plan.
