On December 13, Hanoi City Police held an inauguration ceremony for the Smart Traffic Control Center and the AI camera system to handle violations of traffic safety order.
Accordingly, from December 13, the Smart Traffic Control Center officially operates a system including 1,837 AI camera eyes at 195 key intersections.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung - Director of Hanoi Police said that this is one of the innovations, strongly applying digital technology, and is one of the pioneering steps of the City Police to contribute to building a smart city in the coming time.
With a system of 1,837 AI camera eyes at 195 key intersections put into use, the Smart Traffic Control Center has become a "brain" that monitors traffic and urban order in real time.
From here, the police force can monitor images on key routes and intersections, promptly detect congestion, violations, accidents, and incidents.
Along with that, the AI camera system will support determining the density and traffic volume, regulating the time of the traffic light cycle appropriately; at the same time, automatically identifying violations such as stopping and parking in violation of regulations, driving in the wrong lane, encroaching on the roadway, illegally gathering for business on sidewalks and roads.
"This system will help the authorities record and prepare processing records quickly, reducing dependence on direct and manual inspection and processing as before" - Lieutenant General Nguyen Thanh Tung said.
According to the Director of Hanoi Police, the operation of the Control Center and the AI camera system will fundamentally change people's awareness when participating in traffic, thereby contributing to ensuring order and urban civilization; at the same time, it will bring positive results in solving traffic congestion.
Hanoi City Police set a target of installing about 5,000 AI cameras in 2026, deployed in both alleys and lanes to ensure security, order and traffic safety.
