According to information from Tu Ky district, at around 4:45 p.m. on October 7, a group of four students, all born in 2010, from class 9A of Quang Phuc Secondary School, went swimming in a pond in Tu Ky town, bordering Quang Phuc commune. A short while later, one student in the group drowned, and the other three students on the other side of the river shouted for help. Upon discovering the incident, people in the surrounding area immediately organized a search and rescued N.T.V, taking him to the emergency room. However, at 10:10 p.m. the same day, the victim died.
Previously, at around 4:00 p.m. on October 4, N.H.B (born in 2011, in Tu Ky town) was bathing with his friends in a pond owned by a local resident in An Nhan Tay area. The pond where the children were bathing was close to the road, next to the yard, and had a wall built around it. Afterwards, B drowned and was taken to the Tu Ky town medical station - Tu Ky district medical center - Hai Duong Children's Hospital by local residents and his friends. However, B died at Hai Duong Children's Hospital at 2:30 a.m. on October 5.
Also in Tu Ky town, just 5 days after the above drowning incident, a family in La Tinh Bac area discovered that D.D.T. had drowned in the family's koi pond at 11:00 a.m. on September 29.
According to the leader of the district's Department of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, since the beginning of the year, there have been 9 tragic drowning incidents in the district, causing 10 children to die, including 9 children from Tu Ky and 1 child from Ninh Giang district who went to visit their grandparents in Tu Ky. The number of drowning incidents increased by more than 3 cases, with 4 more deaths compared to the same period last year. This is also the locality with the most drowning accidents in Hai Duong province in 2024.
