According to the provisions of the Road Traffic Law and current penalties, drivers and front-seaters on cars, passenger cars and trucks must wear seat belts.
The fine for drivers who do not wear seat belts is stipulated in Point Q3, Article 5 of Decree 100/2019/ND-CP (amended by Decree 123/2021/ND-CP): a fine of VND 800,000 - VND 1,000,000. In the case of a driver who leaves a passenger without wearing a seat belt while the vehicle is running, the same penalty will be imposed.
For passengers, according to Point k, Clause 2, Article 6 of Decree 100, people sitting on a vehicle equipped with a seat belt but not using it will be fined 300,000 - 500,000 VND.
