On November 1, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, a representative of the People's Committee of Thanh Quan Commune, Thanh Hoa Province, said that regarding the gathering of people in Lam Chinh Village at the entrance to the pig farm of ASEAN International Investment Joint Stock Company to protest the smell pollution, after the authorities and local authorities stepped in to inspect, the business representatives pledged to fix it, and the people no longer gathered to protest.

According to this representative, although the people have stabilized, the working group of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Thanh Hoa province will still conduct inspections of most pig farms in the commune to identify, clarify and handle (if any) violations.
In Thanh Quan commune, there are currently 7 large-scale pig farms, with a total of about 100,000 pigs. Recently, compliance with the law on environmental protection of some farms in the area has not been strict. At the end of September and the beginning of October 2025, the People's Committee of Thanh Quan commune established a working group to inspect livestock farms.
The inspection results showed that some works in the waste and wastewater treatment system of the farms have degraded or are damaged but have not been repaired in time; the smell treatment system behind the barns is not guaranteed; many farms have not installed water flow meters, no signs, warnings and safety equipment in the reservoir area.

Although the Commune People's Committee has requested the farms to fix it, some units still do not comply strictly. Recently, the stench and smoke from burning pigs in farms have occurred frequently, greatly affecting people's lives, especially households living near the farm area.
"Due to the shortage of professional civil servants, limited experience, and the conditions for facilities and equipment for inspection, supervision, and sample collection not being met, we have sent a document requesting the provincial Department of Agriculture and Environment to conduct a comprehensive inspection of pig farms in the area" - a representative of Thanh Quan Commune People's Committee informed.
As reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, during the 2 days (October 29 and 30), many people in Lam Chinh village, Thanh Quan commune, Thanh Hoa province gathered in the sugarcane hill area, setting up a camp (on the road leading to the pig farm of ASEAN International Investment Joint Stock Company - one of the 7 pig farms operating in Thanh Quan commune) to protest environmental pollution.
According to many people, the pollution has been happening for about 3 years now, but in previous years the stench was still less. Up to now, pollution has become extremely serious. Many days, the villagers have been unable to eat rice because of the strong stench.
The incident became tense, as the stench made it impossible for the children of the Kindergarten to study. Too upset, people gathered and set up willinglies all night to ask pig farm owners to handle and fix it.
