On October 31, speaking with a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Le Tien Dat - Chairman of the People's Committee of Thanh Quan Commune, Thanh Hoa Province - said that the people of Lam Chinh Village have stopped gathering to protest the stinking pig farm.
Yesterday afternoon (October 30), the relevant agencies coordinated with local authorities to inspect the pig farm of ASEAN International Investment Joint Stock Company. Through inspection, it was discovered that this farm still has many problems and has not complied with the regulations in the license, so it has been requested to be fixed" - Mr. Dat said.
According to Mr. Dat, after the inspection, the authorities requested the farm not to import new pigs, only raise all the current generation and then stop operating to thoroughly handle the existing problems. After completion, the farm must report the results to the province; at that time, the province will send a team to inspect again to consider whether it meets the conditions to allow continued operation or not.
Regarding the incident, people in Lam Chinh village confirmed that by October 31, people had stopped setting up camps or gathering to protest. The reason is that after the authorities got involved, they made specific requirements and the farm also committed to comply.
"We hope that in the coming time, the farm will seriously implement its commitment, ensure a clean environment, and completely handle the stench affecting the residential area" - a resident shared.

Previously, as reported by Lao Dong Newspaper, during the 2 days (October 29 and 30), many people in Lam Chinh village, Thanh Quan commune, Thanh Hoa province gathered in the sugarcane hill area, set up camps (on the road leading to the pig farm of ASEAN International Investment Joint Stock Company) to protest environmental pollution.
According to many people, the pollution has been happening for about 3 years now, but in previous years the stench was still less. Up to now, pollution has become extremely serious. Many days, the villagers have been unable to eat rice because of the strong stench.
The incident became tense, as the stench made it impossible for the children of the Kindergarten to study. Too upset, people gathered and set up willinglies all night to ask pig farm owners to handle and fix it.
