According to Lao Dong reporters, the final days of preparation for the official operation of the two-level government in wards in Ho Chi Minh City are very urgent and busy. In many new wards in the city center such as Saigon, Cau Ong Lanh, Tan Dinh, Ben Thanh wards... new nameplates have been installed simultaneously.
District 1 will merge 10 existing wards to establish 4 new wards, including: Saigon, Tan Dinh, Ben Thanh and Cau Ong Lanh wards.
Saigon Ward was established on the basis of merging the entire Ben Nghe Ward, along with part of Da Kao Ward and part of Nguyen Thai Binh Ward. The new Saigon ward has an area of 3.038 km2, population of 47,022 people.

Tan Dinh ward was established on the basis of merging the entire Tan Dinh ward and part of Da Kao ward. The area of the new Tan Dinh ward is 1.23 km2, with a population of 48,524 people. The office is located at 30 Phung Khac Khoan, current Da Kao ward.


Ben Thanh Ward is formed from the merger of Ben Thanh Ward, Pham Ngu Lao Ward, part of Cau Ong Lanh Ward and part of Nguyen Thai Binh Ward.
The area of the new Ben Thanh ward is 1.852 km2 (33.67% of the prescribed standards), with a population of 71,875 people. The ward headquarters is located at 92 Nguyen Trai, current Ben Thanh ward.

Cau Ong Lanh Ward was established from the merger of all wards of Nguyen Cu Trinh, Cau Kho, Co Giang and the rest of Cau Ong Lanh Ward. The new Cau Ong Lanh ward has an area of 1.6 km2, population of 78,734 people.


The renovation of the new ward headquarters is part of the preparation for the operation of the new Ho Chi Minh City, formed from the merger of the entire area and population of the existing Ho Chi Minh City with the two provinces of Ba Ria - Vung Tau and Binh Duong.
The new Ho Chi Minh City has an area of over 6,772 km2 and a population of over 14 million people. The total number of commune-level administrative units is 168, including 113 wards, 54 communes and 1 special administrative area.
