Can Tho - On September 22, the Can Tho City Irrigation Department organized the handover and putting into use the emergency anti-landslide embankment project of Cai San canal in Vinh Trinh commune.

This is one of the key projects to respond to serious landslides, protect the safety of people's lives, property and important local transport infrastructure.

The project is being implemented on the right bank of Cai San canal, through Thoi Binh hamlet, Vinh Trinh commune - an area once considered a "hot spot" for landslides in the city. Before the project was started, landslides occurred continuously, seriously affecting the lives, traffic and safety of dozens of households living along the canal. In that situation, the People's Committee of Can Tho City issued an emergency construction order to prevent landslides from continuing to encroach on residential areas, protecting the assets of the State and the People.

The project is invested by the Irrigation Department (under the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City), with a total length of 876.5 meters, a total investment of 100 billion VND. The project started on November 11, 2024, and has now been completed nearly 3 months ahead of schedule, on the occasion of welcoming the City Party Congress for the 2025 - 2030 term.

In addition to the main function of anti-landslide, the project also integrates many important civil items. A new traffic bridge 35.72m long, 4m wide was built, creating favorable conditions for connection between areas. Along the embankment, there are 10 stairs arranged reasonably to serve the people, along with a returned traditional ferry terminal, meeting the needs of travel and living.

Mr. Huynh Thanh Viet - Head of the City Irrigation Department - emphasized that the project is the result of the attention and close direction from authorities at all levels, the consensus of the people and the high sense of responsibility of the construction units.

Mr. Ngo Thai Chan - Director of the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City - stated that the project not only has the purpose of preventing natural disasters, but also opens up new development space for the area, creating momentum to promote the local socio-economy.

The Department of Agriculture and Environment of Can Tho City proposed that local authorities increase propaganda and mobilize people to preserve works, control the anchoring of watercraft and ensure a safe traffic corridor behind the embankment.
