On April 28, the People's Committee of Khanh Hoa province submitted a document to the Khanh Hoa Provincial People's Council requesting comments on the policy of reorganizing Khanh Hoa province with Ninh Thuan province.
Regarding the plan, Ninh Thuan province and Khanh Hoa province will be merged, named Khanh Hoa province, the political and administrative center will be located in Khanh Hoa province.
According to land statistics as of the end of 2024, the natural area of Khanh Hoa province is 5,200 km2, with a population of 1,477,711 people. The number of district-level administrative units is 9 units, including 6 districts, 1 town, 2 cities; the number of commune-level administrative units is 132 units, including 96 communes, 30 wards, 6 towns.
Ninh Thuan province has a natural area of 3,355 km2, population of 765,843 people. The number of district-level administrative units is 7 units, including 1 city and 6 districts; the number of commune-level administrative units is 62 units, including 47 communes, 12 wards and 3 towns.
Khanh Hoa province (after merging Ninh Thuan province and Khanh Hoa province) has a natural area of 8,555 km2 (reaching 171.12% of the standard), a population of 2,234,554 people (reaching 159% of the standard) and 65 administrative units (48 communes, 16 wards, 1 special zone).
Ninh Thuan and Khanh Hoa provinces are two provinces with similar geographical locations, natural conditions, socio-economic conditions, population factors, history, and culture; both are in the Central Highlands region. Ninh Thuan province is adjacent to Khanh Hoa province to the North.
The two provinces are connected through National Highway 1A, the North - South Expressway, provincial roads and other key traffic routes connecting to the east and west of the province... creating strong regional linkages, developing the economy in a multidimensional space, diversifying sectors and fields.
Both Khanh Hoa and Ninh Thuan provinces have long coastlines, which are favorable for the development of marine, aquatic, seafood and logistics tourism. The merger of Ninh Thuan and Khanh Hoa provinces ensures the promotion of the overall effectiveness of Cam Ranh Port and Thanh Son Airport in ensuring national defense and security, creating a defensive position to protect national sovereignty over the sea and islands.
For the means of transportation for cadres, civil servants and public employees from Ninh Thuan to Nha Trang to work, Khanh Hoa province has proposed 4 options for cadres, civil servants and public employees to choose, in accordance with their personal wishes.
The first is official vehicles, supporting weekly pick-up and drop-off, one way to go and one way to return.
Second, traveling independently by private vehicle and receiving travel funding support.
Third is to use buses according to a fixed route arranged by the Provincial People's Committee.
Fourth is the use of trains and being supported with travel costs. Based on actual needs, the Provincial People's Committee will discuss with bus service providers to arrange fixed daily vehicles for cadres, civil servants and public employees to use.
