On December 17, on Lai Son island, Kien Hai special zone, An Giang province, Southern Power Corporation (EVNSPC) held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Lai Son 110kV Transformer Station project, welcoming the 14th National Congress of the Party.
Reporting at the ceremony, Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Thong - Deputy Director of the Southern Power Management Board said that the Lai Son 110kV Transformer Station project has a total investment of more than 101.4 billion VND, with a capacity of 2x25MVA, and a 110kV power line extended by 0.03 km (02 lines). When put into operation, the Lai Son 110kV Transformer Station will effectively exploit the An Bien - Lai Son 110kV power line that has been invested in and is operating with a 22kV power supply, providing stable electricity continuously, reducing the 22kV power supply radius, reducing power loss, meeting the needs of daily life, services, production, tourism of households, businesses and administrative units, border guards, coast guard forces on Lai Son island and neighboring islands; creating momentum for the development of light industry, supporting industry, fishing logistics, serving the development of the marine economy and co-tourism activities.
In particular, Lai Son 110kV Transformer Station will be the place to supply electricity to An Son - Nam Du island commune from the national grid through the An Son - Nam Du island Power Supply Project (expected to start construction in 2026) instead of diesel power stations.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr. Le Thanh Hai - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade of An Giang - highly appreciated and praised the efforts of the Southern Power Corporation and the Southern Power Project Management Board in promoting investment in power grid development in An Giang province.
Mr. Le Thanh Hai affirmed that the investment projects to pull the national grid to the island of the Electricity sector have brought very positive results to the local socio-economic development process. After having electricity, people's electricity demand and usage capacity have doubled and tripled compared to the time of using generators. Up to now, the economic life of people on the islands has developed remarkably. Eco-tourism and resorts are exploited strongly, travel demand has increased dramatically, especially on Lai Son island. The Rach Gia - Lai Son and Nam Du routes have been equipped with high-quality high-speed trains to meet the increasing demand of people and tourists.
The Lai Son 110kV Transformer Station project is not only in line with the planning of An Giang province and the power development plan, but is also a key to completing the Lai Son island power grid and a premise for implementing the national grid towing project for the people of Nam Du and An Son islands. The Department of Industry and Trade of An Giang province is committed to always monitoring and supporting the resolution of arising issues so that the project can be carried out in the most smooth way.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony of the project, Mr. Doan Duc Hung - Deputy General Director of EVNSPC - said that Lai Son 110kV Transformer Station is a project of great significance in ensuring national security and defense, maintaining the territorial sovereignty and sea and islands of the Fatherland. Southern Power Corporation is committed to focusing maximum resources, closely directing, and creating all favorable conditions for the project to be completed on schedule.
EVNSPC leaders also requested the Southern Power Project Management Board and contractors, consulting and supervising units and relevant agencies and units to uphold the spirit of responsibility, discipline, strictly comply with legal regulations and technical standards throughout the project implementation process; proactively and closely coordinate with local Party committees, authorities and people in the project area, ensuring consensus and overall progress of the Project.
