Do not let livestock projects in Gia Lai cause environmental pollution

Gia Lai - Land with difficulty in farming, poor soil color, and barren will be prioritized to implement large-scale livestock projects.

On July 27, news from the Department of Agriculture and Environment of Gia Lai province said that in the coming time, poor and difficult-to-grow areas in the area will be prioritized for livestock projects.

With a large land fund, the communes in the West of Gia Lai province currently have more than 200 investment projects in the livestock sector, with a total area of over 9,310 hectares and a total investment capital of VND 35,777 billion. Of which, more than 92 projects have been granted investment policy decisions by the Provincial People's Committee (previously).

Gia Lai strives to increase the total number of pigs to more than 2 million by the end of 2025, poultry to 20 million and cows to about 822,000. At the same time, the province will also speed up the implementation of livestock projects in accordance with approved planning and plans.

The functional sector only uses areas of colorful, barren land to prioritize the development of livestock projects. The licensing must prioritize large-scale projects that apply high technology, ensure environmental requirements and be located far from residential areas.

In previous years, public opinion in the western area of Gia Lai province was stirred up by a series of pig farm projects licensed in communes such as Ia Pa, Po To, Ia Pia, Iaemch... that caused a foul smell and a large amount of wastewater.

Meanwhile, most livestock projects employ very few workers, but the impact on the environment, people's lives and rural security is very large if there is no careful assessment of environmental impact.

After that, the Gia Lai provincial government issued a notice to stop receiving documents for livestock projects in areas with livestock density exceeding the permitted level.
