On November 8, the People's Committee of Kien Giang province held a working session with the Interdisciplinary Inspection Team of the National Committee for the Advancement of Vietnamese Women. The meeting was chaired by Ms. Nguyen Thi Ha, Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs, Permanent Vice President of the National Committee for the Advancement of Vietnamese Women, Head of the Inspection Team, and Mr. Le Trung Ho, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Kien Giang province.
Over the years, Kien Giang province has paid attention to gender equality, activities for the advancement of women, family work, women, children, prevention of domestic violence, prevention of gender-based violence. The goals for gender equality and the National Strategy for Gender Equality have been well implemented, creating conditions for both men and women to promote their mastery and equality in all areas of economic and social life and in the family, contributing significantly to the successful implementation of the province's socio-economic development tasks.
The proportion of women participating in the Executive Committee of the Kien Giang Provincial Party Committee, term XI, 2020 - 2025, is currently 7/51 comrades (accounting for 13.7%). From the beginning of the 2021 - 2026 term, the proportion of women participating in the National Assembly is 37.5%, the Provincial People's Council is 16/60 people, accounting for 26.6%; the district level is 151/467 people, accounting for 32.33%; the commune level is 986/3,614 people, accounting for 27.28%.
Kien Giang currently has 18 female leaders of provincial departments, branches, sectors and units; 19 women have received postgraduate training; 940 women have received professional training.
Kien Giang province currently has 53 Sustainable Family Development Clubs with nearly 1,500 members; 135 Happy Family Clubs with nearly 3,500 members; 79 "Domestic Violence Prevention" clubs with more than 1,800 members; 103 clubs, teams, and family service model groups with more than 1,000 members participating.
In 2024, the gender equality communication program will be implemented in many forms such as: organizing more than 17,000 seminars, dialogues, competitions, and communication conferences; 25 training conferences, fostering, and improving professional and technical capacity. Organizing nearly 11,000 legal dissemination sessions, consulting, and providing legal aid to more than 493,000 members and women attending.
Speaking at the meeting, Deputy Minister of Labor, War Invalids and Social Affairs Nguyen Thi Ha acknowledged and highly appreciated the efforts of the authorities and people at all levels to achieve many results and achievements in socio-economic development, ensuring national security and defense, building the Party and the political system of the Party Committee and the government. In particular, many outstanding results have been achieved in gender equality, activities for the advancement of women, prevention of domestic violence and gender-based violence.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Thi Ha requested Kien Giang province to continue to effectively implement the Law on Gender Equality and the directives and guidelines of the Government and ministries and branches; accelerate and make breakthroughs in strategic solutions to achieve the goals in 2025; focus on the development, training and creation of conditions for female cadres to promote their capacity and role; strengthen coordination of information and propaganda between agencies and units. Continue to pay attention to and direct the implementation of 3 national target programs and the national strategy on gender equality, contributing to the socio-economic development of the province.
