On September 10, in Nu Village, leaders of the Party Committee, People's Council, and People's Committee of Bao Yen and Phuc Khanh communes respectfully offered incense and commemorated the victims who died in the flash flood that occurred on this day 2 years ago.
In a solemn atmosphere, delegates observed a minute of silence to commemorate those who lay down after the disaster. The incense sticks were lit not only to commemorate the deceased but also as a reminder of the pain that many families in Lang Nu had to endure.
Local leaders also visited and shared with families, encouraging people to continue to overcome losses, stabilize their lives and gradually rebuild their homeland.
Previously, on September 10, 2024, a sudden flash flood swept through Nu Village, sweeping away many houses and burying a residential area.
The disaster killed 67 people and buried 33 households. In a short time, the roofs, people and ordinary life here were swept away by the raging water.
Two years have passed, but for families who have lost loved ones, that pain cannot be easily named by time.
The memorial service therefore becomes a quiet moment for those left behind to remember the deceased, and at the same time remind the community of the losses caused by natural disasters.
After the disaster, Nu Village received special attention from the Party, State, levels, sectors and compatriots nationwide. The resettlement area was built with new spacious and safe houses; along with schools and community houses, creating conditions for people to stabilize their accommodation, study, live and produce.
From the early days when it was still messy after the flood, people began to restore production, looking for economic development directions suitable to natural conditions. Models of growing V2 oranges, cinnamon, raising cold-water sturgeon, and raising livestock and poultry have been implemented, creating additional livelihoods and income for people.
Vocational training classes are also organized, helping people have more opportunities to find jobs and increase income. Many families have gradually stabilized their economies and risen out of poverty.
Along with economic development, the locality focuses on preserving the cultural identity of ethnic groups, taking care of education, social security, building a cultural life in residential areas, ensuring security and order and protecting the environment.
From a land that once suffered the terrible destructive power of natural disasters, Nu Village is gradually reviving, aiming to build a "Happy Village" in the spirit of "Green - harmonious - identity - happiness".
That is also how people here preserve memories of the deceased: not forgetting the past, but continuing to nurture life and faith for tomorrow.
