Lao Cai - The handover of remains of martyrs whose information has not been identified for DNA testing is an important step in the journey to return the names to heroic martyrs.

On July 16, the Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of Lao Cai province handed over 821 samples of unidentified martyrs' remains to the National Institute of Forensic Medicine for DNA testing, serving the work of identifying martyrs' identities.

According to Colonel Hoang Van Toan - Deputy Political Commissar of the Lao Cai Provincial Military Command, 821 sets of remains were taken by forces at martyrs' cemeteries in the province according to the technical procedures of the Ministry of National Defense.

The process of taking samples, preserving, sealing, preparing dossiers and handing over was carried out strictly, ensuring compliance with regulations, science and objectivity, creating a basis for DNA testing to achieve high accuracy.

The handover of remains samples is one of the important contents of the "Operation 500 days and nights to promote the search and identification of remains of martyrs with missing information", contributing to accelerating the progress of identifying the names of unknown martyrs.

After DNA testing, functional agencies will compare the results with biological samples of relatives of martyrs to determine their identity.

This is an important basis to restore the names of heroic martyrs who sacrificed for the cause of national liberation, construction and defense of the Fatherland as well as fulfilling noble international obligations, meeting the aspirations of many martyr families across the country.

The Steering Committee for searching, repatriating and identifying martyrs' remains of Lao Cai province also informed that so far the forces have exhumed 1,251 martyrs' graves at 16 martyrs' cemeteries in the province.

Among these, 821 remains are eligible for DNA sampling, and 430 remains are not eligible for sampling for testing.
