Dynamic project, great impact on Quang Tri province
The investment project to build My Thuy Port Area was approved by the Prime Minister in 2019, with a total area of 685 hectares, including 10 wharves to receive ships with a capacity of up to 100,000 tons, developed in 3 phases: Phase 1 from 2018-2025, investing in 4 wharves; Phase 2 from 2026-2031, investing in 3 wharves; Phase 3 from 2032-2036, investing in 3 more wharves. The project has been approved by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment for its impact assessment report with a total project implementation area (phase 1) of 496.9 hectares, of which the implementation area requiring land occupation is 133.67 hectares and 363.23 hectares of sea surface.
According to the People's Committee of Quang Tri province, the implementation of My Thuy Port Area is to invest in the construction and business of a specialized port area serving mainly industrial establishments in the Southeast Quang Tri Economic Zone, industrial parks in Quang Tri province; combined with attracting transit goods from Laos and Northeast Thailand on the East-West Economic Corridor route.
On January 5, 2024, the Government issued a Resolution, agreeing on the Project to build a conveyor system to transport coal from Laos to Vietnam, crossing the Vietnam - Laos border at the La Lay International Border Gate (Quang Tri) - La Lay (Salavan - Laos) and passing through 2 points within 100m from the border towards the territories of the two countries. Therefore, the early implementation of the construction of My Thuy Wharf is very necessary, facilitating the import and export of goods, especially coal.
Request to speed up project progress
Up to now, the project has completed many investment procedures. Hai Lang district has cleared the first phase of the project, covering 132.82ha/133.67ha, with a total disbursed cost of 138.2 billion VND.
Mr. Ha Sy Dong - Permanent Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Tri province - said that recently he and the delegation of leaders of the units went to inspect the construction status of My Thuy Port Area. Currently, the contractor has constructed the storage yard, casting yard, traffic road with an area of 2.36ha... The contractor is completing 260m of the breakwater according to the design... Mr. Ha Sy Dong emphasized that the My Thuy port project is an important project to serve the socio-economic development of the province, increase revenue, as well as create trust for investors when coming to Quang Tri. However, there are very few vehicles and workers on the construction site, if the construction is not focused, the progress will be difficult to achieve.
“The People's Committee of Quang Tri province has requested the investor and construction contractor to increase human resources and equipment; open more bidding packages, and select qualified contractors to speed up the project's construction progress,” said Mr. Ha Sy Dong.
Within the planned scope of My Thuy Port Area with an area of 133.67ha surveyed, the total sand resource recovered after dredging is 18.75 million tons. According to the analysis results, in the total volume of 18.75 million tons of minerals recovered after dredging, there are about 1 to 2 million tons of white silica sand that meets the standards for making glass and used in the field of mold production; the remaining volume of 16.75 million tons is used as filling material.
