On August 16, the leader of the People's Committee of Son Thuy commune, Quang Ngai province confirmed: A tragic drowning incident has just occurred in the area, causing a local man to go missing. The authorities are still trying to find the victim.
Accordingly, at noon on August 15, Mr. Dinh H (born in 1944), residing in Lang Rin village, Son Thuy commune, attended a relative's wedding in Go Sim village, the same commune.
After attending the wedding, at around 2:00 p.m. the same day, Mr. H was on his way back and wade across the Xa Lo River (in Lang Lanh village, Son Thuy commune) when he was unfortunately swept away by the water and went missing.
Upon receiving the news, the leaders of Son Thuy Commune People's Committee directed the Commune Steering Committee for Natural Disaster Prevention, Control and Search and Rescue to coordinate with local authorities to quickly arrive at the scene and deploy measures to search for the victims. However, due to the strong water flow in this area, the search encountered many difficulties.
As of noon on August 16, the authorities are still coordinating with the grassroots security team, militia and people living along both sides of the Xa Lo river to expand the search area for victims, said the leader of the People's Committee of Son Thuy commune.
According to the leader of the People's Committee of Son Thuy commune, this area often experiences drowning accidents because it has not yet invested in building a bridge across the Xa Lo river (connecting the two old communes of Son Hai and Son Trung). To save time, people on both sides often travel by boat during the high season and by foot during the dry season, posing a very high risk of accidents.
"To get to the other side, people have to go around nearly 20km to the center of Son Ha commune and then return, so most of them choose to take a boat or walk across the Xa Lo river, which is very dangerous. The biggest wish of the people is to soon invest in building a bridge to make it more convenient and safer," the leader of Son Thuy Commune People's Committee shared.
