On the night of January 11, many high mountainous areas in the North such as Phia Oac (Cao Bang), Ta Xua (Tram Tau, Yen Bai), Lao Than peak (Y Ty, Lao Cai), La Pan Tan pass (Mu Cang Chai, Yen Bai) recorded frost.
This is the first time in the winter of 2024-2025 that frost has appeared on Lao Than peak, while Fansipan has recorded this phenomenon twice.
In Ta Xua (Yen Bai), low temperatures have caused ice to cover the mountain tops.
According to information from Phia Oac Broadcasting Station (Cao Bang), the temperature at the top of the mountain dropped to 0°C, with a thin layer of ice on the surface.
The lowest temperature forecast during this cold air mass in the Northern mountainous region is 6-9 degrees Celsius, and in high mountainous areas below 3 degrees Celsius.
The North enters the winter season when the intensity and frequency of cold air increases from mid-January 2025.
Previously, Fansipan recorded continuous ice for 7 days at the end of 2024 and the beginning of 2025, attracting many tourists to "hunt for snow".
In another development, on the morning of January 12, updating reporters, Head of Mau Son Hydrometeorological Station (Lang Son) Hoang Quoc Huy said that the lowest temperature measured here was over 3 degrees Celsius, with no frost.
According to the national meteorological forecast, in the coming days, cold air will continue to strengthen, causing severe cold in the mountainous and midland areas of the North.
